Abstract

Body impedance measuring device which can determine the impedance value in various body areas, and particularly its variations caused by various factors like electromedical radiofrequency devices in. The aim is to catch an impedance value, to memorize and visualize it by a digital or printing analogical indicator. The Body impedance measuring device allows to improve considerably the efficacy of the treatments, allowing to the operator constantly to monitor the impedance treated tissues state. Moreover the device grants the maximum comfort for the treated subject and the maximum security for the operator in all the work phases.

Description of the industrial invention called "'BODY IMPEDANCE .MEASURING DEVICE" on behalf of TSEM S. P-A., via Alessandro Volta 20/A, 35033 Teolo (Padova).
DESCRIPTION TEXT
The system called "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE", is an innovative' equipment devoted to monitor the impedance in different body areas, which works combined to an electric generator for body treatment, and is useful in medical, aesthetic, sports, fitness and veterinary field.
The system is endowed of particular characteristics that grant the maximum comfort for the treated subject and the maximum security for the operator in all the work phases.
The reference problem from which we have started to create the "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" is the absence in market of valid devices that allows a continuous and precise monitoring of the body impedance during all the phases of the treatment of a patient
by radiofrequency treatments.
The proposed device is just implemented in radiofrequency devices such as: • Endothermic
• Marconi-therapy
• Radar-therapy
• Energetic capacitive/resistive transfer (Tecar-therapy)
• Equipment produced in the Italian patent-keeping EP893140 (TecnoSix) ambit.
The human body can be assimilated to an electric bipolar, endowed of resistive, capacitive, inductive effects. Speaking about body impedance, and its value is given by: Z= V/I, where V and I are the complex representation of applied tension and current. Also Z it's a complex value, which real part Re(Z) will be dependent on the body resistance, meanwhile the imaginary part Im(Z) is in strict dependence with the capacitive and inductive body effects. The measuring is performed, by the procedures that will be specifically i explained next, both for the real part and for the imaginary about the impedance. Practically the Re(Z) (real part of the complex impedance Z) and Im(Z) (imaginary part of the complex Z) reading. The visualisation is effectuated after an elaboration of these values, and can be related to (see picture n. 1):

• The phase angle 0
• A linear or non-linear combination of all or some of the previous values The measuring is performed by one of the two methods explained below:
1. Volt-Amperometric method
Calculating the relation between (vectorial but not necessarily) tension and current applied by the electrodes use on the patient's body.
2. Absorbed Current method
The measuring is performed quantitatively valuing in the absorbed current by the final stage (picture 3).
In this way we manage to have the real component measure of the complex impedance.
The equipment that realises the "body impedance measuring device" is schematized in the picture 4. A short explication about the various components is given below:
• RF GENERATOR : is a device that generates electric signals for therapy to which one associates the equipment "body impedance measuring device";
• IMPEDENCE MEASURING: device that realises the real impedance value measure, with the Volt- Amperometric method or the absorbed current method;
• CONDITIONING SIGNAL: indispensable block to define in which way the signal have to be transmitted to
the successive block, so as to allow: o The real part visualization o The imaginary part visualization o The module visualization o The phase angle visualization o The linear or non-linear combination visualisation of all these elements;
Moreover this block allows to put in a desired (logarithmic, exponential, etc...) scale the signal.
• DATA LOGGER: obtains the impedance value at predefined times passed by the signal conditioning block. Memorise it in a memory with suitable dimension and eventually transmit informations to the user interface; video graphic/ printer,
• VISUALISATOR, PRINTER, PC: various user interfaces to visualize in real time the body impedance value, or to visualize the impedance variation among the time;
• TREATMENTS EXIT: parts in contact with the patient's/user's body (electrodes, handles, etc.);
• FEEDBACK: gives to the Generator RP the instantaneous value (but not necessarily) instantaneous of body impedance. In this way it can be implement into the RP Generator a system to keep the current or the exit tension (or a combination of this) constant. This system can be realised almost in two forms: o Automatic control microprocessor: the system regulates the generator power in an automatic way. Claims

1) The claimed system, called "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" combined to therapy equipments for electric current (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy; Radar- therapy; Energetic capacitive /resistive Transfer (Tecar- therapy); Equipment produced in the patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit can execute the body impedance measuring with the Volt-Amperonometric method (very precise method);
2) The claimed system called "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" joined to therapy equipments which use electric current (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy; Radar-therapy; Energetic capacitive/resistive Transfer (Tecar- therapy); Equipment produced in the patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit can execute the body impedance measuring with the absorbed current method less precise than the Volt-Amperonometric one, but simpler than this). This system is reliable by inserting a shunt resistance between the final stadium and the mass, or between the positive reference and the final stadium;
3) The "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" combined to the equipments which use electric currents (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy, Radar-therapy, electric capacitive/resistive transfer (Tecar-therapy); Equipment produced in the patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit is endowed of a conditioning signal circuit, which allows to put this in a desired stair , for example, but ma not necessarily logarithmic; 4) The BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" combined to the equipments which use electric currents (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy, Radar-therapy, electric capacitive/resistive transfer (Tecar-therapy); Equipment produced in the Italian patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit is endowed of a Data Logger, to memorise the acquired signals during the time;
5) The "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" combined to the equipments which use electric currents (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy, Radar-therapy, electric capacitive/resistive transfer (Tecar-therapy); Equipment produced in the Italian patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit is endowed of a feedback to transmit to the RF generator Of the (instant or past) read impedance value;
6) The "BODY IMPEDANCE MEASURING DEVICE" combined to the equipments which use electric currents (Endothermic; Marconi-therapy, Radar-therapy, electric capacitive/resistive transfer (Tecar-therapy); Equipment produced in the Italian patent-keeping EP893140 (Tecnosix) ambit thanks to the possibility to use the supplied by a feedback, allows to realise a powered handle in the RF equipment. In particular the RF generator can vary the power (automatically rotating the handle) keeping constant one or more parameters, such as the absorbed current, the exit tension or a linear combination or none of these.
