Description
Universal device for marking out bores on pieces of furniture
Patent description
The invention relates to a universal device for marking out and preparing bores or places of screws, primarily for handles and other fittings to be mounted on doors of pieces of furniture.
Several solutions are known for making a bore or bores necessary for mounting the handles. One of them is that, by using a measuring tape and a drawing instrument, the places of bores are marked out and, then, bored out. The measurement with measuring tape has the disadvantage that the measuring tape shall be held in parallel with or perpendicular to the door edges, respectively, which requires the measurement and marking out to be repeated several times or a high level of skill in order to obtain the desired accuracy.
The same result can be obtained by using a square ruler provided with scale which also requires a high level of skill and care. In this solution, neither the parallelism nor the perpendicular position causes any major difficulty; nevertheless the task may still be cumbersome if a pair of related bores has to be implemented (e.g. for a handle that requires two bores). Further difficulties arise if the bores shall be placed in a manner that the line connecting their centres shall make some angle with the edge of door.
With the above mentioned methods used, the measurements are time consuming, especially in case of positioning at some angle relating to the edge of door and, at the same time, the boring requires an additional work phase.
The patent No. US 5158406 describes a device that can be used for positioning the bores necessary for joining with high accuracy on the edges of panel.
The patent No. DE 4128472 describes a device that can be used for preparing bores only at a specified distance from the edge of piece of furniture. The distance between the bores can be adjusted by means of the device.
The purpose of this invention is to mark out or prepare bores necessary for mounting the fittings within a time shorter than that necessary for the existing solutions, with higher accuracy, higher safety and more economic method. The device represents a "stop-gap" in the joiner industry. In summary, the field of application of the invention includes all the places where furniture is produced and assembled, respectively.
A further purpose of the invention is to ensure that the same device can be used both in workshops and on the site when assembling the furniture; with both the fixed and variable distances between the necessary bores as well as the need for positioning them at a variable distance from the edge of panel and at a variable angle taken into consideration. In order to achieve this, the invention implements
A
a device without the deficiencies involved in the known solutions, yet, preserving their advantageous features, thus becoming simple and easy to use.
The universal device according to the invention to be used for marking out the positions of bores or screws consists of the component parts as follows: a stop fork, a frame fastened between the prongs of the stop fork, being said frame provided with a groove for screw fastening, for the purpose of setting the frame perpendicular to the stop fork; one or more guide elements arranged on the frame; profiles positioned and fastened by means of screws on the guide elements, for either marking out the bore centres or fixing the position of the fitting to be fastened itself.
The invention implements the purpose set by that the frame accommodates a circular rotatable disk arranged in a rotatable manner, the guide elements are arranged on the circular rotatable disk.
In order to assist the accurate setting of the adjustable parts, the device can include scales and angular scales.
In the universal device, bores equally spaced along the arc can be implemented for the screws serving for fastening the rotatable circular disk.
On the frame, a positioning edge parallel to the scale and pointing at the centre of circle can be arranged.
According to a preferred embodiment of the universal device, the stop fork perpendicular to the frame edge is fastened by a screw by means of a block nut sliding in the groove arranged on the bottom side of frame through the bore made in the closed end of stop fork to the frame.
According to another preferred embodiment of the universal device, both prongs of the stop fork hold a longitudinal groove each, serving for fastening the wandering stops perpendicular to the stop fork by means of a screw each through the bores in the wandering stops.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the universal device, the replaceable circular disk (4) that fits into the frame finely and can be turned away by 360° is transparent where 9 metal sleeves (5) suitable to guide the marking tool or the drill are arranged diagonally on one of the disks.
A groove is implemented diagonally in another disk that can also be mounted into the device, where two metal sleeves (5) that can be slid along the groove and fixed by means of threaded connection are arranged.
In order to facilitate the orientation, the metal sleeves can be marked by different colours.
In another preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, the sleeves actually not in use are closed by plugs.
The device according to the invention can be made of plastic, metal or their combination.
The device according to the invention is described my means of 6 drawings in more details where
Fig. 1 shows the front view of the universal device, position 1.
Fig. 2 shows the front view of the universal device, position 2.
Fig. 3 shows the front view of the universal device, position 3.
Fig 4 shows the replaceable disk and one of the metal sleeves of the device.
Fig. 5 shows the bottom view of the universal device.
Fig. 6 shows the bottom left view of the universal device.
The invention consists of 6 main parts. Fig 1 shows the 1 frame serving as a base with a scale on its bottom side and an angular scale on its neighbouring side continued with bend.
On the (1 ) inner side of the 1 frame along the angular scale, a circular opening provided with a shoulder for the rotatable 4 disk is implemented. Along the arch, 2 opposite bores are arranged for receiving the screws and clamping washers serving for fastening the 4 rotatable disk. At the bottom of the mechanism, a longitudinal groove is arranged that plays part in the fastening of the 2 stop fork. On the 1 frame, the 14 adjusting edge that points at the centre of circular opening is mounted.
The replaceable 4 transparent circular disk that can be turned away by 360° with 9 pieces of 5 metal sleeves suitable to guide the marking tool or the drill arranged diagonally on the disk fits into the frame finely. The pairs of metal sleeves arranged at equal distances from the centre are marked with the same colour while the central metal sleeve is of independent colour.
Perpendicular to the edge of 1 frame along the scale, the 2 stop fork is arranged, both prongs of which hold a 12 groove each, milled in longitudinal direction. In the lower closed end of the 2 stop fork, a bore suitable to receive a 8 fastening screw is arranged. The 8 screw in the bore of the 2 stop fork is connected to the 10 block nut arranged in the groove running along the bottom side of frame.
By means of the 7 fastening screws through the bores of 3 wandering stops on both sides, releasable connection can be established by means of the 9 block nuts arranged in the grooves of the 2 stop fork. The two 3 wandering stops adjustable individually are perpendicular to the 2 stop fork.
The function of the device according to the invention is presented by way of the example below.
The exemplary task is to mount a handle of 96 mm distance between the bores at a 45° angle relating to the edges of a furniture door, with the centre of handle positioned at 80 mm from the vertical side and 100 mm from the horizontal side.
Prior to the boring or marking out, the 2 stop fork shall be set to the 80 mm mark of the scale on the 1 frame and fastened by means of a 8 screw. As a next step, the 3 wandering stop shall be set to thelOO mm mark of the scale on the 2 stop fork and fastened by means of the 7 screw. The 4 disc shall be rotated to the 45° marking of the angular scale and fastened by means of the two 6 fastening screws.
The drilling template set in this way shall be placed on the door plate, with the 2 stop fork pressed against the vertical door edge and slid along it until the 3 wandering stop is in level with the vertical door edge.
The position of bore shall be marked out or the holes bored through the pairs of metal sleeves — selected according to the task — arranged on the rotatable 4 disk of the drilling template held pressed against the door plate.
