Selon une quatrième caractéristique la bande latérale collée à la feuille de papier à rouler est plus longue que la feuille de papier à rouler d'environ 3 cm à titre indicatif et non limitatif. Ce dépassement de la bande latérale collée à la feuille est important car il permet dans un seul mouvement de préformer un petit rouleau qui tient bien entre les doigt. Ce petit rouleau solidaire à la feuille de papier à rouler facilite le roulage de la feuille en un seul et même mouvement car il entraine le bas de la feuille dans un mouvement circulaire et va se loger au centre de la cigarette. Il va ainsi bloquer le tabac et éviter que la bande latérale ne s'enroule autour du tabac et que le fumeur ne reçoive dans la bouche des particules de tabac.
