Abstract

The invention relates to a system and method for a flexible software update for automation systems via Internet. The automation system comprises a special software component which is provided for collecting and transmitting information via the automation system in standardized form, e.g. as XML data. The software component determines the current software and/or hardware configuration of the automation system, e.g. on the computer(s) of the automation system. The standardized form of information collection or preparation enables integration in various processes, e.g. for a structured error management, and automatic detection enables the burden on the service departments to be relieved. The information collected by the software component via the automation system is used to bring the current (software) configuration into line with recommended updates.
