Erfindungsgemäss sind nun über den divergierenden Randbereichen des Spannrahmens 11 Trockengeräte 19 angeordnet, durch die erwärmte Luft oder Wärmestrahlung auf die Randbereiche der vorbeigeführten Materialbahn 1 gelangt. Durch die erwärmte Blasluft und/oder Wärmestrahlung werden die beiden Randbereiche ganz oder teilweise getrocknet. Diese angetrockneten oder trockenen Randbereiche behalten im nachfolgenden Abschnitt während der Schrumpfung im wesentlichen ihre glatte Form bei und rollen nicht ein.
