Abstract

A device for metering a water-soluble additive and discharging the solute into water in a surrounding cistern, comprising a chamber for holding the additive and a solute discharge tube having an outlet below the operating level of the water in the cistern. The chamber has an easily accessible opening for replenishing the additive.

Description

Complete Specification Standard Patent
CISTERN ADDITIVE METERING DEVICE
The following statement is a full description of this invention, showing the operation of the device and /or system and may be utilized in conjunction with existing equipment; fitted as a DIY addition or used as a stand-alone kit.
This invention is a chamber and an outlet the positions and design of which facilitate the discharge of a metered additive into the main storage facility with an easily accessible opening to replenish the additive.
This application includes a user-friendly package for dispensing a block, ball, tablet, crystal, granules or fluid to replenish the additive via an easily accessible opening.
HYDROSTATIC METERING DEVICE OR SYSTEM
The subject of this application although primarily designed to meter water soluble or fluid toilet additives with a specific gravity exceeding that of water; it may be applied to any fluid and additive with suitable specific gravity. The principal requirement is an additive chamber and discharge tube operating below the 'full' level of the storage facility; the additive being introduced to the main storage chamber each time the storage chamber is drained.
This invention is a chamber and an outlet the positions and design of which facilitate the discharge of a metered additive into the main storage facility with an easily accessible opening provided to replenish the additive, using a user friendly package or cartridge for this purpose.
OPERATING CYCLE
Starting with the storage facility full and the additive chamber primed and the discharge cycle is activated either manually or by other (remote) control.
As the main storage facility is drained and the liquid level in the main storage facility drops below the additive outlet, the level in the additive chamber is now above the level of the liquid in the discharging storage facility chamber.
The liquid in the additive chamber now discharges through the outlet tube (which is situated below the top opening of the additive chamber) as it seeks to match the level of the main storage facility, which is now fully drained and starting to refill; the time taken to drain and refill the main storage facility up to the level of the additive outlet and the volume of the chamber above the additive chamber outlet, and the diameter of the discharge orifice of the additive outlet controls the amount of additive released into the main storage.
When the main storage facility is fully discharged and starts to refill, the level in the main storage facility rises above the additive outlet discharge tube; the difference in levels causes the incoming liquid to back flush through the discharge tube into the additive chamber, thus mixing and priming the contents of the additive chamber, ready for the next cycle.
When the main chamber is filled to the level of the additive chamber, the incoming liquid now over-flows the spillway thus completely filling the additive chamber; the contents of which are now at rest; the storage facility keeps filling until it is topped up to its preset (full) level, ready to be discharged -again.
