Abstract

The invention relates to a method for reducing a prion infectious protein concentration in a material embodied in a form of a liquid, particles or fibres and contaminated or suspected to be contaminated with prion infectious proteins consisting (a) in bringing into contact and mixing said contaminated material with at least one type of bacterium which secretes one or several types of hydrolytic enzymes, including proteolytic enzymes, with respect to said prion infectious proteins and (b) in incubating the bacterium or bacteria with the contaminated material for a period of time sufficient for obtaining a desired reduction percentage of the prion infectious protein concentration in the contaminated material.
