Definitions
- the present invention relates to a disposable container for preparing liquids, in particular beverages. It is customary to prepare beverages by dissolving in a liquid, generally water, a soluble tablet or powder containing the substance or substances required for preparing the beverage. These substances can be flavourings or other organoleptic modifiers, or medicaments.
- This known custom uses tablets and/or sachets of the particular substance to be introduced into the liquid, which has been previously or is subsequently poured into a container, possibly of reusable or disposable type.
- Packs are also known comprising a disposable container, in separate compartments of which different products are disposed, to be mixed together at the moment of consumption.
- An object of the invention is to provide a disposable container which can be stacked before use, but is predisposed for preparing beverages in particular by modifying, at the moment of consumption, the characteristics of the liquid poured into them, and can also be used as a normal cup.
- Figure 1 is a partly sectional perspective view of the disposable container according to the invention
- Figures 2a-2d show schematically four successive steps in the production of a first embodiment of a container
- Figures 3a-3c show three successive steps in the production of a second embodiment of a container
- Figures 4a-4c show three successive steps in the production of a third embodiment of a container
- Figures 5a-5c show three successive steps in the production of a fourth embodiment of a container
- the disposable container of the invention consists of a traditional cup 2 of inverted frusto-conical shape, although it could have a different shape, for example frusto-pyramidal or mixed (frusto-conical/frusto-pyramidal) provided it is suitable for stacking.
- the cup can be made of any material compatible with its disposable nature. For example it could be of impermeabilized extendable paper, plastic or aluminium.
- the base 4 of the cup 2 is of pocket type, and in particular presents a more resistant outer (lower) wall 6, preferably made of the same material as the cup, and an inner (upper) wall 8 made of tearable material, for example a very thin impermeabilized paper or an aluminium foil either peelably applied or bonded or otherwise applied along its edge to the more resistant underlying wall 6.
- the upper wall 8 of the cup base 4 is perfectly flat, the lower wall 6 presents a downwardly facing convexity to define with the upper wall 8 a cavity or pocket 10 to house a substance 14 intended to come into contact with the liquid contained in the cup. This concavity is surrounded by the lower extension 12 of the side wall of the cup 2, to provide stable resting.
- the substance 14 contained in the pocket 10 can be in the form of a tablet, a powder, a more or less dense liquid, a granulate, etc., and can be of the most varied types; in particular it can be able to render the more or less dense liquid effervescent, or it can be a sweetening, or flavouring, or nutrient or energizing substance, or the second component of a two-component substance, or a medicament, and in general any substance able to modify the characteristics and/or properties of the liquid 16 contained in the cup.
- the substances which may be contained inside the pocket 10 include sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, sodium citrate, saccharose, a syrup, an essence, a lyophilized preparation for soups, etc.
- the upper wall 8 of its base 4 is opened, to bring the substance 14, contained in the pocket 10, into contact with the liquid 16.
- the openable wall 8 can be opened by pressing from below on its lower wall 6.
- the substance 14 contained in the pocket 10 is in the form of a tablet, its solid nature enables this pressure to tear the upper wall 8; if however the substance 14 is in the form of powder or more or less dense liquid, the tearable wall 8 should be provided with pre-tearing lines, or a solid element for effecting this tearing should be associated with the substance 14.
- This solid element is itself preferably soluble in the liquid 16 contained in the cup or is inert towards said liquid and remains connected to the lower wall 6 of the base of the cup 2. If however the upper wall 8 of the pocket 10 is totally or partially peelable, it should be removed before feeding the liquid 16 into the cup. If the substance to be dissolved in the liquid is of two or more component type, according to the invention these can be contained in separate pockets provided in the cup base, all provided with upper tearable or peelable walls, which can also consist of a single aluminium foil.
- the cup of the invention can also be used as a normal cup, until preparation of the particular substance is required. The following examples further clarify the invention.
- EXAMPLE 1 A sheet of papery material is wrapped about a mandrel to obtain a frusto-conical form which is then joined along a generating line to obtain a cup without base ( Figure 2a).
- a base of deformable papery material is produced with dimensions greater than the lower aperture of the frusto-conical cup, so that following its subsequent insertion into this latter, by means of a traditional punch, the base forms a bent edge.
- said wall can be made by thermoforming a plastic sheet.
- EXAMPLE 2 The cup base is made from a lower sheet of deformable papery material, which is then subjected to traditional forming to obtain therein a cavity, in which the tablet of the substance for preparing the beverage is inserted. The cavity is then closed with a thin sheet of tearable or peelable material, to obtain a one-dose element of the type known in the pharmaceutical field as a "blister".
- the frusto-conical cup without base is then prepared from papery material using for example the already described method, after which the previously created blister element is brought into contact with its lower aperture (Figure 3b), the two parts then being joined together in the already described manner ( Figure 3c).
- EXAMPLE 3 A complete cup is made from plastic material by thermoforming ( Figure 4a), then in its base a central aperture is made ( Figure 4b), into which a separately prepared blister is inserted from the bottom upwards or from the top downwards, so that its flange surrounding the pocket 10 rests on that part of the base surrounding a central aperture which has been previously prepared, to be bonded to it.
- This embodiment is shown with the beverage preparation substance 14 in the form of a powder instead of a tablet.
- EXAMPLE 4 A cup without base is made by traditional methods (Figure 5a), and a base is prepared separately with two pockets 10 intended to contain two different substances (Figure 5b). The base is then fixed to the remaining part of the cup by traditional methods ( Figure 5c). The cup prepared in this manner is ready to be filled with water and then used to prepare a beverage, in which the two components contained in the two different base cavities are to be dissolved.
- This embodiment is also suitable for preparing a choice between two different types of beverage, by dissolving in water the contents of one or the other cavity.
- EXAMPLE 5 A cup is made by traditional thermoforming methods, its base already presenting an upwardly open cavity (Figure 6a); the substance concerned is then inserted into this cavity (Figure 6b) and the cavity is finally closed by a tearable upper sheet (Figure 6c).
- EXAMPLE 6 By traditional methods used widely in the pharmaceutical field, a blister is made containing the required substance in a pocket, the pocket being surrounded by a large outer surface ( Figure 7a). The blister obtained in this manner is then subjected to a traditional thermoforming process, to upwardly bend that part of the element surrounding the pocket and hence form a cup ( Figure 7b).
