Abstract

The inventive method consists in partially reducing iron oxide materials by a plasma into which a carbonaceous fuel and an oxygen-containing gas are introduced, in forming the plasma jet directions in such a way that the longitudinal axes of said jets form a central angle whose summit is arranged on a reactor axis above the predetermined level of a heel of metal. The jets are introduced at a height of 0.5-0.8H from a melting hearth, wherein H is a total material loading height. The reduced metal is continuously removed from a melting area to a receiver and additionally blown by a neutral-oxidising, neutral-reducing, or neutral plasma jet, the oxygen-containing gas being supplied to the plasma in the form of an air-water mixture. The inventive device comprises a reactor whose body (1) is lined with a refractory material. A melting-reducing area (3) which is provided with means for supplying an energy carrier and a reducing agent through plasmotrons (4) is disposed in the lower part of the reactor. Partial reduction means (9) and loading means (14) are mounted in the top part of the reactor. Plasmotrons (4) are disposed oppositely along the reactor circumference at an angle of 30°-50° to a horizontal line in the direction of the reactor hearth in such a way that the longitudinal axes of the symmetrically disposed plasmotrons meet the angle summit arranged above the predetermined level of a heel of metal on the reactor axis. The receiver (21) provided with a tapping hole (7) and an oppositely disposed additional blow-out-refinery plasmotron is arranged in the lower section of the reactor.
