Abstract

The invention relates to an airbag and an airbag module for a vehicle occupant restraint system. The airbag comprises two, in general, rectangular side walls which, when in a non-inflated and non-folded state, are essentially parallel and joined to one another over a surrounding edge area (16), and which enclose the space that can be filled with gas. An inlet opening (20) having a surrounding edge (22) and being provided for a gas inlet connecting piece (34) is arranged so that it is completely located in one of the two side walls (14a) and in the vicinity of a section of the edge area. The area extending from the surrounding edge (22) lies in the plane of the side wall (14a).
