Abstract

The closure assembly (16) is used to secure a cover (14) to an open-ended container (10) such as a drum. The container (10) includes a container body (12) having an open end (18) with a rim (20). The closure assembly (16) includes a split ring member (28) having a cross-section configured to cooperate with the cover (14) and the rim (20) of the container body (12). A locking device (50) co-acts with the split ring member (28) to secure the split ring member (28) to the cover (14) and the rim (20) of the container body (12) and effect a seal between the cover (14) and container body (12). A polymeric coating (60) is applied to at least an inward-facing side of the split ring member (28) that contacts the cover (14) and the rim (20) of the container body (12).
