Abstract

The invention relates to a coating system containing TiO2 and a coating based on silanes and/or siloxanes. The TiO2 has an average crystallite size d50 of 1 - 100 nm and the thickness of the TiO2-layer is between 1 - 1000 nm. The coating system can be produced applying a TiO2 coating and subsequently a silane coating to a substrate. The coating system can be used in the production of automatic cleaning and/or easy-to-look after surfaces (e.g. glass surfaces) and the production of surfaces having switchable hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties, e.g. in the production of printing plates or drums which are etched with UV radiation.
