  • the completed packaging is of a substantially longitudinal stick shape when filled and the bonding of the first pair of edges extends along the longitudinal length of the stick.
  • the formation and filling of the packaging occurs in the following steps:
  • a length of plastics film is fed off a roll, and through a die which causes the lateral edges of the plastics film to abut;
  • step (3) The open mouthed tube formed in step (3) is orientated substantially vertically with the open mouth uppermost;
  • a further step of cutting a nick into one or both of the sealed ends of the package may be included, either before or after step (7) in the above scheme.
  • the nick allows a user of the contents of the packet to easily tear the plastics material and gain access to the packet.
  • one or both of the sealed ends of the package is configured in the following fashion: the overall outline of the sealed end is substantially rectangular with a substantially "V" shaped indent extending into the edge of said substantially rectangular portion adjacent the contents of the package.
  • the user may tear across the sealed portion so that the tear line intersects the "V" shaped indent and passes back into the sealed portion. This creates a spout through which the contents of the package may be poured.
  • the package of the present invention may be provided with a nick in the edge of the sealed portion in such a position as to predetermine the size of the spout formed for pouring out the contents of the package.
  • the nick may be placed relative to the "V" in a position appropriate for the viscosity of the contents of the package.
  • the contents of the package is, for example, a high fat content cream or creamer which has a relatively high viscosity
  • the nick may be so-located as to produce a relatively large spout
  • the nick may be placed so as to produce a substantially smaller spout. It is particularly desirable to control the size of the spout out of which the contents of the package maybe poured so that the rate of pour is controlled and thus the danger of spillage or splashing is avoided.
  • the package may be provided with a number of nicks at different positions longitudinally relative to the "V" which allow the user of the package to determine the size of spout they wish to create to enable them to pour out the contents of the package.
  • the film used in the present invention is most preferably printed with indica as to package contents, origin etc prior to the use of the film in the present invention.

  • the dimensions of the film (4) and the distance between the first and second sealed portion (24, 32) are such that the volume of milk contained within the package created is approximately 12 mis, approximately 14 mis, or approximately 20 mis.
  • the method of manufacture described above results in a package of milk (36) which is flexible and which is manufactured using only three sealed or fused portions (8,24,32).
  • the sealed portion (24) and or portion (32) may have a nick (38) cut into them.
  • nick (38) enables a would be user of the milk in the package (36) to easily tear the film (4) so that the milk may be poured out of the package (36).
  • one or both of the sealed ends of the portions (24/32) of the package (36) is configured so that the overall outline of the sealed portion (24/32) is substantially rectangular with a substantially "V" shaped indent (40) extending into the edge (42) of substantially rectangular portion adjacent the contents (44) of the package (36).
  • the indent is such that the contents of the package may enter the indent.
  • the sealed portion (24/32) is provided with a nick (38) .
  • the nick (38) is so located that using the nick (38) a user may tear across the sealed portion (24/32) so that the line of tearing (46) - see Figure 4 - intersects with the "V" shaped indent (40) .

Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé d'emballage du lait ou de produits laitiers sous une forme liquide et un emballage destiné à de tels produits. Le procédé permettant de créer de tels produits comprend les étapes consistant: (1) à prendre le lait brut et à normaliser celui-ci au niveau de la teneur en matière grasse, à réguler la teneur en matière grasse du lait liquide à un niveau prédéterminé et à stériliser le lait; et (2) à emballer le lait stérilisé dans un emballage aseptique (36). L'emballage (36) est une enveloppe souple constituée d'un seul morceau de film souple dont les deux premiers bords opposés sont assemblés, de manière que le film forme sensiblement un tube, les parois d'une première partie du tube (24) étant assemblées de manière à créer un récipient à goulot ouvert et, une fois le lait stérilisé introduit dans le récipient, les parois d'une seconde partie du tube (32) étant assemblées de manière à créer une enveloppe dans laquelle le lait stérilisé est renfermé.
