  • a lowermost one of the pleats 22 is attached to the base 14 which forms a part of the packaging 12 for the covering 10.
  • the base 14 is joined to the remainder 24 of the packaging, which includes an end wall portion 26 covering the end of the stack 20 and a channel portion 28 joined to the end wall portion 26.
  • the end wall portion 26 and the channel portion 28 are shaped and sized such that they co-operate with the base 14 to keep the pleats 18 tightly stacked when in the packaged condition as seen in Figure 1.
  • the channel portion 28 does not extend for the whole length of the elongate stack 20 and as a result packaging costs are reduced and a user is allowed to see the cover member, and its colour, in the packaged condition.
  • the pleats 18 are provided with centrally aligned holes 30 through which a cord 32 passes.
  • the base 14 includes a holding notch 34 in line with the holes 30 and cord 32, as seen in Figure 4.
  • the notch 34 is provided centrally at one side of the base 14.
  • An uppermost pleat 35 of the stack has a rectangular adhesive member 36 attached to it which is formed of a card material and presents an adhesive surface for attachment of the cover member at the uppermost pleat to a surface above a window to be covered.
  • the pleats 18 are maintained in the elongate stack 20 by the base 14, the end wall portion 26 and the channel portion 28 of the remainder 24 of the packaging. In this condition part of the cover member is clearly visible to a user. Walls 38 of the channel portion 28 are used to grip and carry the covering 10 whilst in the packaged condition. When the covering 10 is required to be unpackaged, these channel wall 38 portions may be used to lift the remainder 24 of the packaging away from the elongate stack 20 of pleats 18 (see Figure 2).
  • the card material is folded at the junctions between the end wall portion 26 and the channel portion 28 and also the end wall portion 26 and the base 14.
  • a perforated line of weakness is provided at the junction between the end wall portion 26 and the base 14. Referring to Figure 3, this allows a user to tear the remainder 24 of the packaging away from the base 14 manually.
  • the adhesive member 36 is attached to, for example, an upper-frame of a window to be covered. Once the covering 10 has been attached above the window the elongate stack 20 of pleats 18 is allowed to unravel under gravity urged by the weight of the base member 14 (see Figure 4) . If it is not desired to use the full length of the cover member to cover a window, it is possible to allow the pleats 18 to partially unravel and use the cord 32 in conjunction with the notch 34 provided on the base 14 to hold the pleats 18 against further unravelling, by manipulating the cord 32 to engage with a friction fit in the notch 34. The cord 32 may be similarly applied to the notch 34 to hold the corner member in a fully retracted position, if the cover member is not required to cover the window.
  • FIG. 5 a similar covering is shown, but having a different packaging 50.
  • the packaging is formed of a card material, as in the first embodiment, but the remainder 54 is attached to the rectangular base 52 along one of its longitudinal edges, with the ends of the elongate stack of pleats being left exposed.
  • Figure 5 two sections are cut out from the remainder 54 of the packaging allowing a user to easily see part of the covering 10, and its colour, in this condition.
  • a perforated line of weakness is provided allowing the user to easily tear off the remainder 54 from the base 52.
  • a projection 56 extends from the base 14, as an integral part of the base, and a holding notch 58 is formed in the projection 56 to accommodate, with a friction fit, the cord running through the pleats 18, so as to hold the pleats in a desired position, as in the first embodiment.
  • the projection 56 may also be used as a handle to raise or lower the zigzag arrangement of pleats 18 as required.
  • the packaging 60 is formed of a card material and comprises a rectangular base 62, rectangular side walls 64, 66 and a rectangular top wall 68.
  • a line of weakness in the form of perforations is provided longitudinally between the side wall 66 and the top wall 68 of the packaging 60. This facilitates opening of the packaging as seen in Figure 8.
  • Adhesive strips 70, 72 are provided on an inner surface of the side wall 66 and the uppermost pleat 35. The purpose of the adhesive strip 70 on the uppermost pleat has been previously described and the purpose of the adhesive strip 70 on the side wall 66 is discussed below.
  • the walls 64, 66, 68 have cut out portions (not shown in Figures 8 and 9) arranged to form cord locating recesses 74, 76 in the load member 78 in the unpackaged condition (as seen in Figures 10 to 12) .
  • edges 78, 80 of the cord locating recesses 74, 76 are sloped to prevent a loop of cord, wound between the edges 78, 80 from falling under its own weight.
  • Distance indication marks are provided towards the ends of the packaging to indicate distances from either end.
  • the colour of the covering can be seen in the packaged condition through the cut out portions (not shown in Figures 8 and 9).
  • the distance indication markers (not shown) are used as guides to cutting a predetermined length of the covering off each end, if required, for example to fit different widths of window. Equal amounts should be cut from each end to keep the cord 32 centrally aligned.
  • the packaging is opened by separating the top wall 68 from the side wall 66 using the perforations between them.
  • the side wall 66 is folded underneath the base 62 and the adhesive strip 70 is exposed.
  • the side wall 64 and top wall 68 are folded underneath the base 12 so that the top wall 68 overlaps the adhesive strip 70 on the inner surface of the side wall 66 and becomes adhesively attached to the side wall 66 to form the hollow, triangular section load member.
  • cord locating recesses 74, 76 are formed in the load member 78.
  • the adhesive member 72 is then attached to, for example, an upper frame of a window to be covered. Once the covering has been attached above the window, the covering is used as previously described. Referring to Figure 10, a bottom section of the covering is shown where the covering is allowed to be opened almost fully and an excess length 82 of cord 32 dangles idle beyond the notch 34.
  • the bottom section of the covering is shown where the covering is held in a position in which there is a larger excess length 82 of cord 32. It is undesirable to leave a large excess length 82 of cord 32 lying idly for safety and aesthetic reasons. The excess length 82 of cord is therefore wound around the edges 78, 80 of the recesses 74, 76 to form a loop. This arrangement is best seen in Figure 11 and prevents the excess length 82 of cord from dangling freely and possibly dangerously.
  • holding means including clips, clamps or similar holding arrangements to prevent the pleats from unravelling, and to hold them closed together in the fully retracted position of the cover member.
  • Different materials may be used for the cover member and/or the base and different configurations may be used for the packaging.
  • Different detachment means may be used to allow the remainder of the packaging to be detached from the base.

L'invention concerne une protection pour fenêtre, porte ou ouverture similaire qui possède un élément de protection et un élément d'emballage (62, 64, 66, 68) situé sur ledit élément de protection permettant d'amener ce dernier à protéger ladite fenêtre, porte ou ouverture similaire lorsque, en cours d'utilisation, la protection est déballée. Lorsque ladite protection se présente selon un état original déballé, l'élément d'emballage (62, 64, 66, 68) fait au moins partie de l'emballage dudit élément de protection.
