Abstract

L'invention concerne un scintillateur à halogénure de lanthane (par exemple LaCl3 and LaBr3) présentant un temps de descente rapide et une bonne résolution temporelle, ainsi qu'une émission lumineuse légère et une bonne résolution d'énergie. Ledit scintillateur est utilisé dans la conception d'un scanner TEP. Ledit scanner TEP comprend une cavité destinée à recevoir un patient et une pluralité de modules détecteurs TEP disposés dans une configuration cylindrique, approximativement autour de la cavité. Chaque détecteur TEP comprend un scintillateur à halogénure de lanthane présentant une pluralité de cristaux d'halogénure de lanthane, un guide lumineux, et une pluralité de tubes photomultiplicateurs disposés, respectivement, à la périphérie de la cavité. La bonne résolution temporelle permet de développer un scanner TEP à temps de vol (TOF) qui présente une réduction de la propagation du bruit lors de la reconstruction d'images et un gain dans le rapport signal sur bruit. Ledit scanner TEP comprend un circuit de marque d'horodatage qui enregistre l'heure de réception des rayons gamma par les détecteurs TEP et fournit des sorties de données temporelles qui sont transmises à un processeur, qui, à son tour, calcule le temps de vol (TOF) des rayons gamma passant à travers un patient placé dans la cavité et il utilise le temps de vol des rayons gamma dans la reconstruction des images du patient.
