  • the production of low nicotine cigarette can be found in US Patent No 5,713,376 with a title of Non-additive tobacco products issued to Bergen.
  • Tobacco used in this Patent was produced by reacting the tobacco with an oxidant or subjected to an extraction/removal process for a suitable period of time such that the nicotine contained in the leaf was then converted into nicotinic acid or niacin. If the conversion or extraction or distillation process mentioned in the patent was allowed to sufficiently occur, no nicotine or only a minimal amount of free nicotine remains in the smoking product.

  • the average time required to completely smoke a cigarette in a normal way will be about 3 minutes, that is only one third of the time required for completely smoking a light type filter cigarette commonly found in the market.
  • the cigarette according to the present invention also obviate the necessity to throw away the cigarette when the time available for smoking about less than 3 minutes as in the case of smoking conventional light type filter cigarettes.
  • the cost of the cigarette will become economical. Accordingly, the cigarette in accordance with the present invention is suitable for public facilities where smoking activities is still permitted but unfavorable.

  • the diameter of tobacco portion 140 of the cigarette 100 according to the present invention is made similar to the diameter of the filter 120, i.e. from 5 to 10 mm.
  • the length of the tobacco part Ti is approximately 15 to 50 mm. With the length of the filter 120 and tobacco part 140 mentioned here, the total length of the cigarette according to present invention will be about 40 mm to 90 mm.
  • the density of the cut tobaccos wrapped in the cigarette paper at the tobacco part 140 will be about 0.00005 gr/mm 3 to 0.07 gr/mm 3 , preferably about 0.0002 gr/mm 3 .
  • the average time required to completely smoke the cigarette 100 according to the present invention will be around 3 minutes, that is about one third of the time required to completely consumed light type filter cigarette commonly found in the market such as ArdathTM and MarlboroTM (these cigarettes require 9 minutes in average with normal smoking) .
  • the filter cigarettes 10 of the type commonly found in the market were cut in such a manner that the length of their tobacco parts T approximate the length of tobacco parts Ti of the cigarettes 100, i.e. about 15 to 50 mm, their taste and smoking characteristics would be consequently changed.
  • the reason for this is that the taste and the smoking characteristics of the filter cigarettes 10 are determined by the unique combination of the dimension of the filter 12 and tobacco part 140 and the density of the cut tobaccos used in the cigarette. Therefore, the taste and smoking characteristics produced by the unique combination of the dimension of the filter and tobacco part and the density of the cut tobaccos used in the cigarette 100 according to the invention is different than the unique combination of the dimension of the filter and tobacco part and the density of the cut tobaccos used in the conventional filter cigarette 10.
  • the cigarettes according to the present invention may offer the advantages as follows:
  • the smoking desire of the smokers can be fulfilled even if the time available for smoking is relatively short (1-3 minutes) , (ii) dirtying environment can be reduced due to the smaller amounts of cigarettes remnants compared to the conventional cigarettes, (iii) the cost for tobaccos can be reduced significantly, and (iv) the smokers need not to keep smoking the unfinished cigarettes due to their feeling more economical to do as may be the case in smoking conventional cigarettes.
  • the tobacco material, the filter and the density can be varied from the preferred embodiment described above.
  • the length of the filter and tobacco part can also be varied as desired to, for example, reduce the nicotine content, to quicken the time required to finish smoking a cigarette etc.
  • the embodiment described above is only for illustrative purpose, and their modification as well as their variations should be construed included in the scope of this invention if they fall in the definition of the claims below.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une cigarette comprenant un filtre présentant un diamètre d'environ 5 à 10 mm et une longueur d'environ 25 à 40 mm, du tabac haché roulé dans un papier à cigarette d'un diamètre compris environ entre 5 et 10 mm et d'une longueur comprise environ entre 15 et 50 mm, le tabac présentant une densité comprise environ entre 0,00005 gr/mm3 et 0,07 gr/mm3, de préférence 0,0002 gr/mm3. L'utilisation de cette cigarette à filtre permet d'obtenir une durée moyenne requise pour fumer complètement une cigarette de manière normale d'environ 3 minutes, ce qui constitue seulement un tiers de la durée requise pour fumer complètement une cigarette à filtre de type légère que l'on trouve communément sur le marché. La cigarette de l'invention permet également d'éliminer la nécessité de jeter la cigarette lorsque le temps disponible pour fumer est inférieur à environ 3 minutes, comme dans le cas de cigarettes à filtre légères classiques.
