Abstract

Selon cette invention, un milieu optiquement actif inhomogène comportant des composants optiquement actifs, tels que de l'encre contenant des paillettes réfléchissantes ou une poussière de pierre précieuse, est disposé sur une ou plusieurs parties d'une pièce ou intégré dans cette dernière. Lorsque ces parties sont éclairées par de la lumière visible et/ou ultraviolette, les composants, qui sont aussi anisotropes, offrent des informations immédiatement détectables qui peuvent être extraites pour une chaîne qui est comprise sur un indice ou associée à ce dernier, lequel est utilisé pour authentifier la pièce. Afin de vérifier la nature de la pièce, la ou les parties qui renferment le milieu optiquement actif sont à nouveau éclairées, et la chaîne est générée une nouvelle fois à partir de diverses images des aspects des composants. Cette nouvelle chaîne, ou selon ce qui convient, un indice basé sur la chaîne est ensuite comparé avec une chaîne ou un indice qui est imprimé sur la pièce ou associé à cette dernière. Si les chaînes ou indices nouvellement et anciennement générés correspondent, la pièce est considérée comme authentique. Sinon, la pièce est considérée comme contrefaite.
