- a liquid application device including a main body having a handle; a wheel mounting section; a rotatable ground engaging wheel operatively mounted to the wheel mounting section, the wheel including a rim having a liquid absorbent material thereon; a support housing for mounting a liquid holding receptacle on the main body; a flow direction outlet for directing liquid from the receptacle to the rim of the wheel; and control means operable to cause the flow of liquid from the receptacle to the flow directing outlet.
- the main body may be in the form of an elongated member with the handle at one end portion thereof and the wheel mounting section at the other end portion thereof.
- the elongated member includes a tubular section, the handle being at one end thereof.
- the support housing may include a cylindrical member having a base and an open top side.
- the cylindrical member forms part of the main body and is operatively connected to an end of the tubular section remote from the handle.

- the control means may include a valve operable for adopting an open position in which flow of liquid can pass from the receptacle to the outlet and a closed position in which the flow is inhibited, and an actuator operable to cause operation of the valve.
- the actuator is disposed in the region of said handle.
- a connecting rod and push plate movable by the actuator may be operatively connected to the actuator the push plate causing movement of the receptacle relative to the support housing to cause operation of the valve.
- the actuator includes a pivotally mounted lever movable from a position in which the valve is closed to a position in which the valve is open.

- the ground engaging wheel 16 has a strip of absorbent material extending around the wheel rim.
- the receptacle support section 20 includes a generally cylindrical housing 21 for receiving a receptacle or container 40 therein.
- the cylindrical housing includes a side wall 24, a base 22 and an open top side 23.
- the side wall has viewing apertures 25 therein for enabling to see the quantity of liquid in the container.
- the container 40 may be in the form of a bottle 41 having an outlet neck 42 to which a cap 43 can be secured such as by complementary threaded sections on the cap and neck.
- the receptacle support section 20 is pivotally connected to the end of the tubular section 13 at pivot mounting 28.
- a locking pin 29 holds the support housing and the tubular section in the operative position shown in Figure 1. Release of the locking pin 29 enables pivotal movement between the two parts so that the container can be placed in the support housing.
- the device further includes a flow directing outlet 26 in the form of a spout 27 formed in the base 22 of the support 20, the outlet 26 directing liquid from the container 40 to the absorbent material on the rim of the wheel.
- Control means 60 is provided to cause the flow of liquid from the receptacle to the flow directing outlet.
- the control means includes a pivotally mounted an actuating lever
- the valve assembly 50 includes a ball 51 disposed within a housing 55 and a valve seat 52 formed in the closure cap 43 of the container 40.

- the closure cap 43 is adapted to be received within a recess 57 formed by an upstanding circumferential rib 58 in the base 22 of the support 20.
- a triggering projection 59 is disposed within the recess 57 so as to be able to act on the ball 51.
- a seal in the form of an O-ring 64 is disposed within the recess 57 and surrounds the flow directing outlet 26.
