Definitions

  • the invention relates to a support roller for opencast conveyor belt comprising a cylindrical housing, at least one bearing and at least one axis of rotation.
  • the invention also makes reference to preferred uses of a roller according to the invention.
  • conveyor belts are used to transport material.
  • These conveyor belts usually have support rollers on which the belt rests.
  • These support rollers have a metal cylindrical housing and can freely rotate around their geometric axis, for which they usually have a conventional metal bearing (for example a ball bearing) at each end of the cylindrical housing and an axis of coaxial rotation with the geometric axis of the housing that crosses the entire housing and that rests on the two bearings.
  • These rollers usually present a series of inconveniences when they are used in more or less aggressive environments, in particular in the open air or open sky, as well as in environments with dirt and / or dust.
  • the bearings oxidize and get stuck, stopping spinning. This presents problems of noise and wear of the tape, when it touches the surface of the metal housing. This forces frequent maintenance work. Summary of the invention
  • the object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks.
  • This purpose is achieved by means of a support roller for open conveyor belts characterized in that the cylindrical housing is made of reinforced plastic material, and the bearing (s) are made of thermoplastic material (for example polypropylene) with an addition of a solid lubricant.
  • This addition is preferably molybdenum bisulfide and is preferably between 30% and 70% by weight, although other solid lubricants, such as graphite, are also possible.

  • the cylindrical housing has an external surface of low coefficient of friction. This is preferably achieved by coating the cylindrical shell with hard petroleum jelly or PTFE (Teflon®). It should be taken into account that during the operation of the roller, it rotates on its axis at the same time that a conveyor belt moves over it. Ideally, the translation speed of the conveyor belt and the speed of rotation of the roller are synchronized, so that there is no relative movement between them. However, in practice this relative movement is usually present (to a greater or lesser degree) which causes friction forces. By coating the cylindrical housing of a material with a low coefficient of friction, these friction forces are reduced, which results in a lower drag effort and a longer service life of all components.
