Abstract

A bulky pulp, characterized in that it can be produced by a method comprising subjecting a raw material pulp to a mercerization treatment with an aqueous 5 to 50 % alkali solution and then to a warm water treatment, at least, with a warm water having a pH of 3 to 12 and a temperature of 50 to 100˚C; and a method for producing the bulky pulp. The bulky pulp can be used for producing a converted paper suitable as an upper layer paper of a wall paper or the like, and the resultant wall paper made of paper is excellent in design characteristics and is less prone to pollution of the environment. Further, a multi-ply paper using a bulky pulp layer containing the above bulky pulp and a natural pulp layer can be produced with less process troubles.
