Abstract

The invention relates to a sensor for detecting particles in a gaseous stream, in particular soot particles in an exhaust gas stream. Said sensor comprises at least two measuring electrodes (7, 8), which are located on a substrate (6) consisting of an insulating material. The measuring electrodes (7, 8) are at least partially covered by a retaining shell (13; 21). The invention also relates to a method for controlling the function of a sensor for detecting particles, in particular, soot, said sensor having at least two measuring electrodes (7, 8), whereby a capacitor (16, 17, 18) is allocated to the measuring electrodes (7, 8) and the capacitance of said capacitor is determined.
