Description

CONE FOR EXERCISING PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLE AND NERVE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a device for exercising pelvic floor muscle and
nerve, more particularly to a device that leads the exercise of the pelvic floor muscle
and nerve by a cone which is put into the vagina or the anus.
BACKGROUND ART
Fig. 1 illustrates a nerve constitution of human body related to the pelvic nerve.
Medically, the pelvic floor muscle related to the pelvic muscle is distributed to
the urethra, the vagina and the anus and operates as a barrier gate of the bladder, the
womb and the rectum. If the pelvic nerve and muscle is damaged by extreme
expansion on childbirth, the urethra, the vagina and the anus which are controlled by
the pelvic muscle and nerve are also damaged, which causes the incontinence of urine,
the sexual function trouble related to the vagina and the constipation related to the
anus.
In Fig. 1, nerves which transmit commands from brain to pelvic floor muscle
and nerves is referred to as the motor nerve, and nerves which transmit command
from pelvic floor muscle and nerve to brain is referred to as the sensory nerve. Normally, the signal of brain nerve is transmitted to the pelvic nerve through the
sacral nerve, the pelvic nerve controls the function of the urethra, the vagina and
the anus by controlling the pelvic muscle. On the contrary, if the pelvic muscle
moves, the pelvic muscle senses it and transmits sense signal to the brain nerve
through the sacral nerve, and the brain nerve command signal to pelvic nerve
through the sacral nerve.
However, if any one of above-mentioned paths has trouble, organic operation of
human body cannot be performed, which causes the incontinence of urine, the sexual
insensibility and the constipation.
In order to treat above-mentioned urine, the sexual insensibility and the
constipation, drugs treatment, surgical operation treatment and functional treatment
have been used. As the drugs treatment and the surgical operation treatment have
many side effects and possibility of recurrence, the functional treatment is used
generally.
Among the functional treatments, there are pelvic floor muscle and nerve
exercise by cone, nerve and muscle fortification by electric stimulation, and
biofeedback pelvic floor muscle exercise by EMG(Electromyograph).
Fig. 2 illustrates an example of a cone used in functional treatment.
In functional treatment by pelvic floor muscle and nerve exercise using cone, the
cone shown in Fig. 2 is put into the vagina or the anus, and pelvic floor put forth strength when the user stands up in order for the cone not to fall.
If the cone is inputted to the vagina or the anus and the user stands up, the cone
falls by the gravity. The pelvic nerve senses the falling of the cone and pelvic muscle
put forth strength in order for the cone not to fall.
In order for the exercise of pelvic floor muscle and nerve by the cone to be
effective, the pelvic nerve should sense the motion of the cone which is put into the
vagina or the anus. However, there are more people who have trouble about pelvic
nerve than normal people, therefore, many people can't sense the motion of the cone.
Therefore, pelvic floor muscle and nerve exercise using the cone was not
effective as the pelvic nerve could not sense the motion of the cone.

THE BEST MODES FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in
more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 4a illustrates a schematic constitution of the device for exercising pelvic
floor muscle and nerve according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 4a, the device for exercising pelvic floor muscle and nerve
comprises a controller 400, lead line 402, a cone 404 and the cone 404 comprises a
stimulation signal generator 406.
In Fig. 4a, the controller 404 receives information about operation condition of
the cone 404 from the user and plays a role as a grip.
When the user takes out the cone 404 from the vagina or the anus, the user pulls
the controller 404 in order to take out the cone 404.
The user transmits signal which indicates the operation of the stimulation signal
generator 406 or the cone 404 through the controller 400 and the cone operates
according to the control signal of the controller 400.
It is preferable that the controller is implemented in small size so that the user
handles the controller easily and the controller is put into a pocket. The lead line 402 connects the controller 400 and the cone 404 electronically.
The signal generated in the controller 400 is transmitted to the cone 404 through the
lead line 402.
The stimulus signal generator 406 generates stimulus signal so that the user
senses the motion of the cone. As mentioned above, as the nerve of the pelvic is not
sensitive, the exercise of the pelvic floor muscle and nerve was not performed
effectively.
Therefore, in the present invention, the stimulus signal generator 406 is
included in the cone 404 and the user senses the motion of the cone 404 through the
stimulus signal.

signal generator 406 generates mechanical stimulus signal such as vibration signal in
order for user to sense the motion of the cone 404. The vibration signal can be generated
by general vibration motors.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the stimulus signal
generator 406 generates electric stimulus signal in order for user to sense the motion o
the cone 404. The electric stimulus signal may be transmitted by applying voltage to
conductor such as metal band and contacting the metal band to the surface of the vagina
or anus.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the stimulus signal generator generates the stimulus signal in predetermined time interval. It would
be apparent to the skilled in the art that the time interval of the stimulus signal can be
controlled by the user. The time interval of the stimulus signal is set by the controller,
the time interval setting information is transmitted to the cone 404 through the lead line
402.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the stimulus signal
generator 406 generates the stimulus signal according to the location of the cone in
vaginal or anus. The exercise of pelvic floor muscle and nerve is performed when the
floor muscle and nerve raise the cone falling by the gravity. Therefore, the stimulus
signal generator generates the stimulus signal when the cone is located in the lower part
of the vagina or the anus after detecting the location of the cone.
Fig. 4b illustrates a schematic constitution of the device for exercising pelvic
floor muscle and nerve according to another preferred embodiment of the present
invention.
As shown in Fig. 4b the device for exercising pelvic floor muscle and nerve
according to another embodiment of the present invention comprises a controller 408
and a cone 412 coupled to the controller 408 wirelessly.
While Fig. 4a illustrates a case that the controller 400 is coupled to the cone 404
through lead line 402, Fig. 4b illustrates a case that the controller 408 controls the
operation of the cone 412 wirelessly. In Fig. 4b, the controller 408 transmits the information regarding the operation
condition wirelessly.
As shown in Fig. 4b, the cone 412 comprises wireless signal receiving circuit
414 in order to receive information regarding operation condition from the controller
408.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the controller
transmits the information regarding operation condition through the infrared rays and
the wireless signal receiving circuit receives infrared ray signal and analyzes it.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the controller 408
transmits the information regarding the operation condition using bluetooth and the
wireless signal receiving circuit 412 is a blootooth chip that can receive bluetooth signal.
According to still another embodiment of the present invention, the controller
408 transmits the information regarding the operation condition using RF(Radio
Frequency) signal and the wireless signal receiving circuit may be a RF receiving circuit.
Fig. 3 illustrates an example that the device for exercising pelvic floor muscle
and nerve is put into the vagina or the anus and operates.
As shown in Fig. 3, the cone 300 of the device is put into the vagina and the
controller 302 is coupled to the cone 300 through the lead line 304 and used when the
cone is taken out.
As shown in Fig. 3, the cone moves between A the high part and B the low part and leads the exercise of pelvic floor muscle and nerve.
If the cone 300 is put into the vagina, the cone falls on account of the gravity
and the stimulus signal generator generates mechanical or electric stimulus signal.
Stimulated pelvic floor muscle and nerve by the stimulus signal starts exercise,
and the cone rises to the A by the exercise of the pelvic floor muscle and nerve and this
process is repeated.
Fig. 5 illustrates a detailed constitution of the cone according to a preferred
embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 5, the cone according to a preferred embodiment of the
present invention comprises a vibrator 500, a switching element 502, a control pulse
generator 504 and a charging battery 506.
Fig. 5 illustrates a device that leads the exercise of pelvic floor muscle and
nerve by mechanical vibration.
In Fig. 5, the control pulse generator 504 generates pulse signal that controls the
operation of the vibrator 500.
The control pulse generator 504 starts operation on receiving trigger pulse from
the controller. The controller may transmit the trigger pulse when the user pushes switch.
Fig. 6 illustrates an example of control pulse which the control pulse generator
generates.
As shown in Fig. 6, the control pulse may be rectangular wave that high level and low level is repeated. The control pulse indicates the operation of the vibrator 500
when the signal level is high level and indicates the suspension of the vibrator 500 when
the signal level is low level. When the control pulse is high level, the cycle is vibration
cycle, when the control pulse is low level, the cycle is vibration suspension cycle.
A multi vibrator may be used as the control pulse generator and the vibration
cycle and the vibration suspension cycle may be controlled by the user. At this case, the
controller 404 includes means for controlling the pulse cycle of the control pulse
generator. Otherwise, the pulse cycle may be controlled by varying the value of
capacitor and inductor of the circuit.
The switching element 502 receives the control pulse of the control pulse
generator and provides power to the vibrator according to the control pulse.
The switching element connects the charging battery 506 and the vibrator 500
when the signal level of the control pulse is high level and disconnects the charging
battery 506 and the vibrator when the signal level of the control pulse is low level,
which controls vibrator to operate only when the pulse cycle is vibration cycle.
General transistors may be used as the switching element 502.
The charging battery 506 provides operation power to the control pulse
generator 504 and the vibrator 500. A charging terminal of the charging battery may be
included in the controller and the charging power is provided through the lead line.
While the power is provided by the charging battery in Fig. 5, it would be apparent to the skilled in the art that general batteries or other power providing means
besides charging battery can also be used.
The vibrator generates vibration signal according to the control pulse. The
vibrator 500. The vibrator generates the vibration signal when the signal level of the
control pulse is high level and does not generates the vibration signal when the signal
level of the control pulse is low level, which transmits mechanical stimulus signal
periodically.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the vibrator 500
may be implemented using general vibration motors. The power of the vibration is
determined by the torque and velocity of the vibration motor. According to a preferred
embodiment of the present invention, a vibration motor with 4000~4800 RPM may be
used.
Fig. 7 illustrates an example that switching element of the cone is a transistor
according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 7, if the switching element is an NPN transistor TR7, the
control pulse generator 504 is coupled to the base of the transistor TR7 and the charging
battery 506 is coupled to the collector of the transistor TR7 and the vibrator 500 is
coupled to the emitter of the transistor TR7.
The NPN transistor TR7 is turned on if voltage is applied to the base, and if
voltage is not applied to the base, the NPN transistor is not turned on. When the signal level of the control pulse is high level, voltage is applied to
base and the transistor TR7 is turned on. When the signal level of the control pulse is
low level, voltage is not applied to the base and the transistor TR7 is not turned on.
Therefore, when the signal level of the control pulse is high level, the charging
battery 506 and the vibrator 500 is coupled and the vibrator 500 operates. When the
signal level of the control pulse is low level, the charging battery 506 and the vibrator
500 is not coupled electronically and the vibrator 500 does not operate.
In Fig. 7, it is one of a preferred embodiment of the present invention that a
transistor is used as a switching element and it would be apparent to the skilled in the art
that the other switching elements can be used.
Fig. 8 illustrates a constitution of the cone according to another embodiment of
the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 8, the cone according to a preferred embodiment of the
present invention comprises a metal band 800, a switching element 802, a control pulse
generator 804, a charging battery 806 and a transformer 808.
Fig. 8 illustrates a cone that leads exercise of pelvic floor muscle and nerve
through electric stimulation.
In Fig. 8, the control pulse generator 804 generates a control pulse that controls
the electric stimulation of the metal band 800. As is the case of Fig. 5, the control pulse
generator 504 starts operation on receiving trigger pulse from the controller. The controller may transmit the trigger pulse when the user pushes switch.
The control pulse generated in the control pulse generator 804 is same as the
control pulse shown in Fig. 6.
Therefore, the stimulation cycle with high level and the stimulation suspension
cycle with low level is repeated in the control pulse.
The switching element 802 connects the charging battery 806 and the metal
band 800 when the signal level of the control pulse is high level, and disconnects the
charging battery 806 and the metal band 800 when the signal level of the control pulse
is low level. The switching element 802 may be a transistor.
The transformer 808 amplifies voltage provided from the charging battery 806.
As the voltage provided from the charging battery 806 is too small to stimulate the
vagina or the anus, the transformer 808 amplifies the voltage so that the user can sense
the motion of the cone. Although the transformer 808 is used as the amplification
element, it would be apparent to those skilled in the art that other amplification elements
can be used besides transformer.
The voltage amplified by the transformer 808 is applied to the metal band 808.
The metal band is outside of the cone in order to contact to the surface of the vagina or
anus, and provides electric stimulus signal to the surface of the vaginal or anus when
voltage is applied.
As is the case of the vibrator 500, the metal band generates electric stimulus signal according to the control pulse. In other words, the metal band generates electric
stimulus signal when the control pulse is high level, and does not provide electric
stimulus signal when the control pulse is low level.
Fig. 9 illustrates a constitution of the cone according to another embodiment of
the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 9, the cone according to another embodiment of the present
invention comprises metal bands 800, a control pulse generator 804, a charging battery
806 a transformer 808, the first buffer 900, the second buffer 902, a differential
amplifier 904 a comparator 906, a logic circuit 908 and a reference voltage generator
910.
The cone shown in Fig. 9 generates an electric stimulus signal when the cone is
low part of the vaginal or anus so that the cone is raised to the high part of the vagina or
the anus by the exercise of the pelvic floor muscle and nerve.
In Fig. 9, as the function of the metal bands 800, the switching element 802, the
control pulse generator 804, the charging battery 806 and the transformer 808 is same as
the function explained in Fig. 8, the detailed explanation will be omitted.
Generally, the voltage between two metal bands is higher when the cone is
located in the low part of the vagina. Therefore, if this characteristic is used, the location
of the cone in the vaginal or the anus can be determined.
The first buffer 900 and the second buffer 902 is coupled to the two metal bands 800 respectively and controls the input impedance, Therefore, the first buffer 900 and
the second buffer 900 is not essential constitution element of the present invention, if
there is no trouble about input impedance, the first buffer 900 and the second buffer 902
may not be used.
The differential amplifier 904 is coupled to the first buffer and the second
buffer and provides voltage proportional to the difference between the output voltage of
the first buffer 900 and the second buffer 902. Therefore, the differential amplifier 904
generates relatively high voltage when the cone is located in the low part of the vagina
or the anus and the differential amplifier 904 generates relatively low voltage when the
cone is located in the high part of the vagina or the anus. General OP amps may be used
as the differential amplifier.
The comparator 905 compares the output voltage of the differential amplifier
904 with the reference voltage outputted form the reference voltage generator 910 and
generates output voltage if the output voltage of the differential amplifier 904 is higher.
The reference voltage generator 910 generates predetermined voltage that is
determined that cone is located in the low part of the vagina or the anus and provide the
generated voltage to the comparator 906. The comparator determines the location of the
cone in the vagina or the anus by comparing the reference voltage with the output
voltage of the differential amplifier 905. The OP amp or IC including OP amp may be
used as the comparator. The logic circuit generates a control signal if one of a control pulse of the
control pulse generator and a output voltage of the comparator is high level so that the
metal bands generate stimulation voltage. It is preferred that the logic circuit is an OR
gate circuit, however other logic circuits may be used if needed. For example, if the
logic circuit that controls the metal bands to generate stimulus signal when both of the
control pulse and the output voltage of the comparator are high level, AND gate circuit
may be used.
Fig. 10 illustrates a detailed constitution of comparator and reference voltage
generator according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 10, OP amp 1000 operates as the comparator, output voltage
of the differential amplifier is inputted to the non-inverting terminal of the OP amp 1000
and reference voltage is inputted to the inverting terminal of the OP amp 1000.
As shown in Fig. 10, the reference voltage generator may comprise a variable
resistor and a bias voltage. The reference voltage can be varied by controlling the
variable resistor.
The OP amp 1000 generates output voltage if the output voltage of the
differential amplifier inputted to the inverting terminal is higher than the reference
voltage, if not, the OP amp does not generate the output voltage.
The constitution of comparator and the reference voltage generator shown in
Fig. 10 is one of a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it would be apparent to the skilled in the art that the comparator and the reference voltage generator can be
implemented using other elements.
Fig. Ila and Fig. lib illustrate external constitution of the cone that provides
electric stimulus signal.
As shown in Fig. Ila, metal bands which provide electric stimulus signal may
wrap the cone in parallel direction, or as shown in Fig. lib, metal bands may be on the
cone in vertical direction.
As shown in Fig. Ila, if the two metal bands wrap the cone in parallel direction,
the location of the cone in the vagina of the anus can be determined by measuring the
voltage difference between two metal bands.
The form and the number of metal band can be varied in various ways, and it
would be apparent to the skilled in the art that those variations would not affect the
scope of the present invention.
Fig. 12a and 12b illustrate an external constitution of controller according to a
preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Fig 12a illustrates an external constitution of the controller that leads the
exercise of the pelvic floor muscle and nerve by the mechanical vibration and Fig. 12b
illustrates an external constitution of the controller that leads the exercise of the pelvic
floor muscle and nerve by the electric stimulation.
As shown in Fig. 12a, the controller according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a charging terminal, arrow mark buttons 1202, button for
controlling vibration cycle 1204, button for controlling vibration suspension cycle 1206
and a switch 1208.
The charging terminal is coupled to a charger and provides charging voltage to
the charging battery. As shown in Fig. 5, the charging battery may be included in the
cone or the charging battery may be included in the controller unlike Fig. 5.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the user controls
the vibration cycle and the vibration suspension cycle using buttons of the controller.
When the user controls the vibration cycle, the user selects button for controlling the
vibration cycle 1204 and increases or decreases the vibration cycle using arrow mark
buttons 1202. When the user controls the vibration suspension cycle, the user selects
button for controlling the vibration suspension cycle 1206 and increases or decreases
the vibration suspension cycle using arrow mark buttons 1202.
The information which the user inputted is transmitted to the control pulse
generator, the control pulse generator controls the operation of the vibrator according to
the information which the user inputted.
The switch 1208 provides trigger signal to the control pulse generator. When
the user would like to start the operation of the device for exercising the pelvic floor
muscle and nerve, the user presses switch, the switch provides trigger signal to the
control pulse generator and the control pulse generator provides control pulse to the vibrator.
As shown in Fig. 12b, the controller according to another embodiment of the
present invention comprises button for controlling the stimulation cycle 1210, button for
controlling the stimulation suspension cycle 1212, button for controlling the reference
voltage 1214, a charging terminal 1216, arrow mark buttons 1218 and a switch 1220.
The function of the charging terminal 1216, and the switch 1220 is same as the
function of the charging terminal 1200 and the switch 1208 of Fig. 12a, and the method
for controlling the stimulation cycle and the stimulation suspension cycle 1210 is same
as the method explained in Fig. 12a using the button for controlling the stimulation
cycle 1210 and the button for controlling the stimulation suspension cycle.
The button for controlling the reference voltage 1214 is used to control the
reference voltage when the location of the cone in the vagina or the anus is determined
using voltage difference between two metal bands.
As the voltage difference between two metal bands is different for each user,
the user controls the reference voltage so that the cone generates electric stimulation
signal when the cone is located in the low part of the vagina or the anus.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
According to present invention, even the people who can not sense the motion
of the cone can exercise the pelvic floor muscle and nerve as the cone provides stimulation signal.
Further, as the stimulation signal is generated when the cone is located in the
low part of the vagina or the anus by measuring the voltage difference between two
metal bands, exercise of the pelvic floor muscle and nerve can be performed more
effectively.
