Abstract

A control lever mount assembly (60) suitable for use in connection with an off-road motorcycle (10). The lever mount assembly (60) includes a lever-supporting portion, or perch (100), which is configured to ratably support a control lever (38). A sleeve (110) is secured to the handlebar (32) and supports the perch (100) for rotation about an axis (H) of the handlebar (32). A detent assembly (140) secures the perch (100) in a desired angular orientation relative to the sleeve (110) and the handlebar (32). The detent assembly (140) is configured to permit rotation of the perch (100) in response to a force being imparted to the lever (38) and/or perch (100) during a crash or fall to protect the perch (100) and lever (38) from damage. The perch (100) may also be permitted to move axially inward relative to the handlebar axis (H). The sleeve (110) desirably includes a chamfer (160) at an inward end to facilitate repositioning the perch (100) onto the sleeve (110) after it has moved axially inward. Preferably, one or more clamp members (114, 116) are configured to apply a clamping force to the sleeve (110) over a relatively large surface area to prevent damage to the handlebar (32). A slot (112) may be provided in the sleeve (110) to permit the sleeve (110) to be compressed around the handlebar (32) for a secure fit.
