Abstract

A safety tool (20) takes the form of a base plate (21) having a plurality of mounting apertures (22) for selectively mounting one or more pipe engaging members (40, 41, 42). The mounting apertures (22) are arranged in a symmetrical grid (23) such that the pipe engaging members (40, 41, 42) may be selectively mounted upon the base plate (21) in any of a plurality of orientations. One or more hoisting apertures (25) may be provided on the base plate (21) for utilization of a mechanical hoist (51) in the lifting operation. A handle (26), which may be removable, may be provided on the base plate (21) for manual manipulation of the tool (20). The symmetrical grid (23) enables utilization of the tool (20) with one, two or several pipe engaging members (40, 41, 42) or with the pipe engaging member or members in various orientations with respect to the base plate (21).
