Abstract

An isolated peptide capable of binding a mammalian plasma protein or of generating an immune response in a mammal, the peptide comprising: (a) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 (NNS24), SEQ ID NO:9 (KQF22) or SEQ ID NO: 10(VDQ26); (b) an amino acid sequence having at least 70% homology to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, 9 or 10; or (c) a fragment of (a) or (b) of at least 6 amino acids in length. The peptide can be used in a method for identifying an antibacterial agent, in a vaccine or in the treatment of a bacterial infection in a human or animal.
