Due to each pusher passing a number of feeders 4, thus a composite product can be formed which comprises, for instance, a main document with a number of annexes. In itself, such a product assembly path is already known from practice and therefore does not merit further explanation. Applicant, among others, has been marketing such an assembler for a number of years. It will be clear that instead of drum feeders 4, feeders of a different type, known per se, are eligible.
  • the inserting module 7 Downstream of the product assembly path, that is, on the right- hand side of Fig. 1, the inserting module 7 is disposed.
  • the inserting module 7 is provided with a magazine 8 for placing a stack of envelopes therein. Further, means are provided for positioning the envelopes in a receiving position, in which receiving position, in use, the product coming from the product assembly path 1 is placed in the envelope. After placement of the product in the envelope, the envelope with the product placed therein is led to a discharge path 9 for further processing.
  • the conveying direction of the discharge path is perpendicular to the conveying direction of the inserting module.
  • the inserting module is provided with a control with a control panel 11.

  • Fig. 5 further shows clearly that the inserting module is provided with an endless conveyor 12 on which the grippers 13 are mounted. In the present exemplary embodiment, the endless conveyor 12 carries six grippers 13.
  • the endless conveyor 12 follows a path such that the grippers 13 thereof can engage an envelope present in the magazine 8 and, as a result of the travel of the conveyor 12, can pull the envelope from the magazine 8, while further the grippers 13 can position a respective envelope in another part of the path in the receiving position, a downstream end of which is defined by a stop 14.
  • the stop 14 is represented in two positions. The left-hand position is used when small envelopes are processed, while the right-hand position is used when large envelopes are processed.
  • the stop 14 can also be positioned in intermediate positions.
  • Fig. 5 further shows clearly that along the path of the conveyor 12 cam tracks 15, 16 are arranged, while the grippers 13 of the conveyor 12 are provided with cam followers 17, 18 which, in use, move through the cam tracks 15, 16 and effect the opening and closure of the grippers 13.
  • the position of the stop 14 can be set depending on the size of the envelopes to be processed. It is therefore also necessary that the position where a respective gripper 13 releases an envelope be adjustable as well, so that envelopes of different sizes can be processed.
  • this release position is settable in that a cam track section 19 is adjustable in the conveying direction.
  • the stop 14 mentioned earlier is controllable, so that it can be brought into a hold position and a release position. In use, an envelope runs against the stop 14 which is in the hold position, while the envelope is being released by a gripper 13. The respective envelope continues to rest against that stop 14.
  • the inserting module is provided with the intermediate conveyor means which are arranged for taking over the conveyance of the product P from the pusher conveyor 2 of the product assembly path 1.
  • the intermediate conveyor means are designed as an endless conveyor 20 with pushers 21.
  • the endless intermediate conveyor 20 is driven with a controllable drive, so that the speed with which the product can be slid into the envelope by the intermediate conveyor 20 can be varied.
  • the intermediate conveyor 20 takes over the conveyance of the product, which is initially effected by the pusher 3 of the pusher conveyor 2 of the product assembly path 1, and slides the product into an envelope which is disposed in the receiving position.
  • these discharge means comprise three endless conveyor belts 22, 23, 24.
  • One conveying part of a first conveyor belt 22 is disposed at least partly against a conveying part of a second conveyor belt 23.

  • the inserting module is provided with a suction cup 25 for pulling up an opening edge of the envelope disposed in the receiving position.
  • a movably arranged downholder 26 is provided, for holding down the product to be inserted, under the pulled-up opening edge. The displacement of the movable downholder 26 involves a reciprocating movement for sliding the downholder into the opening of the envelope after the suction cup has pulled up the opening edge.
  • the magazine 8 too is provided with a movably arranged suction cup 27 for pulling down a lowermost envelope present in the magazine 8.
  • the magazine 8 is further provided with a movably arranged stack support 28 for supporting a lower edge of the lowermost envelope of a stack of envelopes disposed in the magazine.
  • the movement of the suction cup 27 and the stack support 28 is energized by a controllable drive which drives a cam disc 29 which, via a transmission, such as, for instance, a rod system, is dynamically connected with the suction cup 27 and the stack support 28.
  • the discharge path 9 has a discharge conveying direction which extends perpendicularly to the conveying direction of the inserting module 7.
  • the discharge path 9 is provided with a stop 30 which is clearly visible in Fig. 6 and against which products supplied by the discharge conveyor belts 22, 23, 24 come to abut, so that they are aligned.
  • the discharge path 9 is provided with a vacuum conveyor belt and with sealing means not represented in the drawing, for sealing the envelope.
  • These sealing means comprise, for instance, an apparatus for wetting the sealing flap of the envelope and a guideway for gradually folding over the sealing flap during advancement of the envelope along the discharge path 9.
  • a hot-melt glue dispensing unit may be provided.
  • the intermediate conveyor 20 moves the envelope with the product further in the direction of the discharge conveyor belts 22, 23, 24 and the envelope is subsequently conveyed further between the conveying parts of the conveyor belts 22, 23 until it comes to lie against the stop 30 to be subsequently discharged in the discharge path in transverse direction.
  • Fig. 7 shows the curve of the speed of an intermediate conveyor pusher 21 during the cycle represented in Fig. 6. Clearly, the speed varies and does not fall back to 0 at any time.
  • Fig. 8 shows a similar series of figures to that represented in Fig. 6b, but the process represented in Fig. 8 is carried out with considerably smaller envelopes. Clearly visible is that the stop 14 has been moved relative to the gripper conveyor 12. Although not represented in Fig. 8, in addition to the stop 14, also the cam track section 19 has been displaced to move the release position of the grippers 13.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un appareil d'insertion comprenant : un chemin d'assemblage (1) de produits destiné à acheminer un produit, éventuellement composé, à placer dans une enveloppe, un module d'insertion doté d'un magasin (8) à enveloppes et d'un moyen pour positionner les enveloppes dans une position de réception, dans laquelle position de réception, lors de l'utilisation, le produit venant du chemin d'assemblage de produit est placé dans l'enveloppe, le module d'insertion (7) est doté d'un convoyeur sans fin (12) doté de préhenseurs (13), le convoyeur sans fin (12) suivant un chemin tel que ses préhenseurs (13) peuvent venir au contact d'une enveloppe contenue dans le magasin (8) et, du fait du déplacement du convoyeur (12), ils peuvent tirer l'enveloppe du magasin (8), et les préhenseurs (13) peuvent positionner une enveloppe respective dans une autre partie du chemin dans la position de réception. L'invention concerne également un procédé pour placer un produit dans une enveloppe à l'aide d'un appareil d'insertion selon l'invention.
