Description

FUN LEARNING KIT
Technical Field
This invention relates to a "FUN LEARNING KIT" which helps children learn the
pre-school essentials.
It is known that various learning kits and toys play an important role in improving
children's learning capabilities. Children are usually first taught to count numbers,
alphabets, phonetics etc., with the aid of some learning kits. For example children
are made to count numbers by providing marbles, pebbles, beads or like articles.
Alphabets are taught by providing the shaped letters in wood or plastic or the like.
Learning kits that are specifically intended for use by toddlers (children under the
age of three) are designed to allow children to carry out elementary functions such
as inserting, matching, pilling, patterning, balancing and the like. In turn, these
toys typically consist of a collection of common objects such as blocks, rings and
pegs. Using such objects, a child is provided with tasks bounded by simple rules.
For example, a goal may be to group objects of the same colour or to stack objects
having the same shape. Background Art
Indian Patent No. 77332 describes an educational toy by means of which a child
can be made to learn counting and very simple steps of addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division. Through countless number of learning kits are
available for children which help in developing their minds, the need for a self
learning kit which is simple stimulating and or appealing to the young mind, result
oriented and cost effective is still wanted.
Disclosure of the Invention
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a self learning kit
based on a novel, didactic method in learning. The kit of the present invention is
simple and yet an effective tool.
The "FUN LEARNING KIT" is a self learning tool designed for learning pre¬
school essentials such as Alphabets, Numerals, Phonetics, word building
Skills, analytical abilities, etc., for the children in the age group of three and half
years to five years. The kit adopts a novel didactic method in learning, which
makes learning a fun and keeps children engaged in their activities for hours
together. The fun learning kit of the present invention comprising of a set of cards having
alphabets, math symbols and numerals displayed therein with uniquely identifiable
green and red dots arranged as per binary code and a visual board bearing pictures
representing each alphabets, math symbols and numbers 0 to 9, each alphabet,
math symbol and number having holes punched corresponding to the green dots in
the set of cards mentioned in (a) above for identification, said board having
packets for each of the pictures, said set of cards and the board having magnetic
material so as to enable the placement of cards on the visual board . The learning
kit further includes a deck of picture flash cards (figure-C), a picture book for word
building exercise (Figure-D), a clip board for playing jumble words, puzzles,
arithmetics (Figure-E), a puzzle book (figure -F) a set of key alphabet pockets
(Figure-G), and a set of wild Cards (figure-H).
Learning with the aid of the kit is essentially through placing of the
alphabets/Numerical cards in the pockets provided in the Visuals Board and in the
Picture Book as called for in each of the activities mentioned in TABLE-A. The
pockets provided for placing cards in the Visuals Board and in the picture book have holes punched corresponding to the green dots on the relevant cards
pertaining to the pockets. As the cards (Figure-A) are placed in the pockets in the
Visuals Board and in the picture books, the punched holes on the pockets will
reveal the red and the green dots printed on the cards. Thus, the pockets will show
all green dots if the card inserted is correct, otherwise one or more red dots will be
displayed indicating the cards inserted in the pocket are not relevant to the pocket
and wrong. This makes the children to learn to pick-up the correct cards through
interactive didactic means.
The self learning process through this kit has been classified in six distinct
chapters as given below;
Figure imgf000005_0001
The details of each of the activities to be carried out under each chapter is
explained in details in the Table-A.
TABLE-A

This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying
drawings, wherein:
Figure A represents a sample of the cards,
Figure B represents the visual board,
Figure C represents a sample of the picture flash cards,
Figure D represents a sample page in the picture book,
Figure E represents the cKp board,
Figure F represents a sample page in the puzzle book,
Figure G represents the sample key cards and;
Figure H represents the wild cards.
Figure A shows a sample of the cards having alphabets, numbers etc, written
therein. These are 40 x 65 x 0.5 mm Plastic Cards embedded with magnetic
material is used for learning Alphabets, Numbers, Words, Phonetics,
Arithmetics, Solutions to Puzzles, etc. These cards are mainly used by way
of inserting them in the pockets provided for in the Visual Board and in the
Picture Book for identifying the figures and placing them on a magnetic clip
board for forming words. The visual board and the picture book pocket will display green dots only when the card placed is correct. With this novel
methodology, children are oriented to self-learning.
The Visual Board used in the Fun Learning kit of the present invention is seen in
FIGURE-B. The 30 x 50 x 4 mm Board bears pictures representing each
alphabets, numbers and arithmetic signs. Each of the pictures have been provided
with pockets for inserting the alphabetical cards. These pockets have punched
holes corresponding to the Green dots on the correct cards, meant for the pockets.
The Picture Flash Cards seen in Figure C are a deck of Plastic Cards of size 45 x
80 x 0.4 mm bearing pictures of different alphabets are enclosed in a box. The top
position of the picture flash cards have holes punched as per the binary code
adopted in the Alphabetical Cards. Children have to insert the first letter of
alphabet representing the name of the picture. The flash card can be pulled out and
inserted at the back of the box after properly identifying the picture with correct
alphabet to continue the Game.
Figure D shows a sample page of the Picuture Book. This book contains around 30
pages of attractive pictures, simple Arithmetics, etc. for word building and arithmetic exercises. Top edges of the pages have been provided with pockets for
inserting Alphabetic cards to form words pertaining to the picture. The pages are
designed in such a way that first few pages are printed with the work pertaining to
the learning with one or two blanks. In the subsequent pages, children are to form
whole words and solve arithmetics on their own.
The 260 x 340 x 2.5 mm Clip Board seen in Figure E has embedded magnets
which is used for playing word building exercise, solving puzzles, arithmetics, etc.
Letters pertaining to simple words can be jumbled and placed on the clip board.
Children have to re-arrange the letters to form the correct words. Similarly, puzzles
and arithmetic problems can be written on the board for the children to solve the
puzzles. Key cards available in the kit can be placed on the board to solve the
problems in didactic method. The board can also be used for writing alphabets,
numbers, etc., and for playing games. The magnetic materials in the board and in
the cards makes the cards to stick to the board while playing.
Figure F shows a sample page of the puzzle book included in the fun learning kit
of the present invention. The said book contains around 30 pages with interesting
puzzles and exercise as per sample shown in Figure-F. The book can be made use
for playing games. A sample of the Key Card is seen in Figure G. The 45 x 50 x 0.4 mm Key Card of
alphabets and numbers have punched holes similar to the pockets provided in the
visual board and in the picture book on one side and the Alphabets/Numbers
printed on the other side. Answers to the problems can be formed with the help of
key cards by teachers to help the children know whether they are proceeding with
solving problems.
The wild cards are seen in Figure H. There are totally six wild cards in the kit
(three cards with Birds and three cards with Animals' pictures). These cards are
meant for playing "Tic Tac Toe" game and for using them as wild card while word
building exercises.
