Description

"Closing device for glasses orbit"
DESCRIPTION
The present invention concerns a closing device for glasses orbit rim, in particular for metal glasses.
Generally the supporting structures for glasses lenses, commonly called frames, are provided with orbit rims with round or oval or other shape also called "orbits", suitable to surround and to support the lenses. Said orbits are cut at a point in order to widen them to position the lens and subsequently the two ends of the orbit thus created must be fastened together in order to support the lens. For this reason said orbits are provided with devices for closing their ends.
The closing devices currently in use utilise bushings that are welded onto the ends of the orbits and screws for the fastening of the bushings. More precisely the bushings that are utilised are two for each orbit, one welded onto each end of orbit; one of the two bushings has a threaded hole, whereas the other one has a tlirough hole that is passed through by the screw that gets screwed into the threaded hole of the other bushing.
However the screw can loosen and sometimes can get out of the bushings thus causing the distancing of the ends of the orbit and the dropping of the lens out of the frame.
Such problem is solved by a closing device for glasses described in a previous international patent application WO 98/50815 of the same Applicant. The closing device of the aforesaid patent comprises a non threaded screw provided with an enlarged head and a stem with T-shaped end and a first and a second bushing that are welded onto respective ends, of an orbit rim previously subjected to cutting. The first bushing is provided with an internal slot suitable to allow the stem and the T-shaped end of the screw to pass through and with a top groove for the housing of the end of the screw after the same has been rotated by 90°. The second bushing is internally hollow for housing a helicoidal spring and it has a top slot for allowing the stem and the T-shaped end of the screw to pass through. The closing of the ring-like orbit rim is obtained by pressure insertion of the stem and the T-shaped end of the screw through the first and second bushing and rotation of the same screw by an angle of 90° so that the T-shaped end can be arranged in the appropriate groove of the second bushing. The firm coupling of the two bushings, and therefore of the two ends of the rim, is guaranteed by the compression of the spring positioned around the stem of the screw inside the first busliing. In view of the state of the art described above, scope of the present invention is to provide a closing device for glasses orbit rim that has an easy construction and assembly, is long lasting and allows a watertight sealing of the same device.
According to the present invention, such scope is attained by means of a closing device for glasses orbit rim, said orbit rim having a portion divided into two parts for the positioning of a lens, said closing device comprising two bushings each integral with the ends of the respective two parts of the orbit rim and a coupling device suitable to couple the two bushings, said coupling device being made up of a screw with an enlarged head and with a stem provided with T-shaped end and said bushings being provided with an internal axial slot for the passage of the stem and the T-shaped end of the screw and with a resting surface for said end of the screw when this is rotated from the position of insertion, characterised in that said closing device comprises a ring made of elastic material arranged around the stem of the screw in proximity of the head of the same screw in such way as to be squeezed between the head of the screw and the first one of the two bushings in the direction of insertion of the screw into said slot of the two bushings.
Owing to the present invention it is possible to provide a closing device for glasses orbit rim that, in virtue of the utilisation of the elastic material ring instead of the usual helicoidal spring, has easier construction and assembly, is long lasting and allows the watertight sealing of the device.
In addition the presence of the ring made of deformable material instead of the spring prevents the entrapment of hair in the coils of the same spring.
The characteristics and the advantages of the present invention will become evident from the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof, that is illustrated aε a non limiting example in the enclosed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a part of the orbit rim of a glass provided with the closing device according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a side view of the part of orbit rim in Figure 1 ;
Figure 3 is a front view of the part of orbit rim in Figure 1 ;
Figure 4 is a top view of a non threaded screw with a ring of elastic material, that is a part of the closing device according to the present invention; Figure 5 is a side view of the screw with a ring of elastic material in
Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a top view of a small cylinder of the closing device of the present invention before the same is welded onto the part of the orbit rim in Figures 1-3 and then cut in order to form two bushings coupled by the screw in Figures 4 and 5;
Figure 7 is a section view of the small cylinder according to the line Vπ-VII m Figure 6;
Figure 8 is a side view of the small cylinder in Figures 6 and 7;
Figures 9-11 are figures that show the assembly of the closing device according to the present invention;
Figure 12 is a top view of the closing device according to the present invention with a screw fastened in position of locking of the bushings.
Figures 1-3 show a part of glasses 1 comprising an orbit 2 for lens 3. The orbit 2 is divided by a V-shape cut 5 that defines two parts of orbit rim 6 and 7 whose ends are associated with respective first 8 and second bushing 9 of a closing device according to the invention. More precisely the two bushings 8 and 9 derive from a V-shape cut of a small cylinder 10, visible in Figures 6-8, that is welded onto the orbit 2 before carrying out the V-shape cut. According to the invention the closing device comprises, in addition to the two bushings 8 and 9, a coupling device 11, visible in Figures 4 and 5, made up of a non threaded screw having an enlarged head 13 with normal or cross-slotted cut and a stem 4 with T-shaped end 12.
Around the stem 4, in proximity of the head 13, a ring 15 of elastic material, preferably of rubber, is arranged.
The small cylinder 10, preferably with cylindrical shape, has an internal axial slot 16 having a transversal section made up of a central round part 17 adjacent to two rectangular wings 18; said slot 16 is suitable for the passage of the stem 4 and the T-shaped end 12 of the screw 11. The small cylinder 10 has on its top surface 20 a pair of rectangular grooves 21 arranged perpendicularly to the wings 18 and such as to house the end 12 of the screw 11.
In Figures 9-11 the various step of assembling of the closing device according to the invention are shown in sequence. At a first step the end 12 and the stem 4 of the screw 11 are inserted inside the slot 16 (Figure 9) of the first bushing 9. In a second moment the end 12 and the stem 4 pass tlirough the second bushing 8 up to the top 20. By a pressure action from the bottom the ring 15 gets squeezed between the bottom surface of the first bushing 9 and the head 13 of the screw 11 (Figure 11). With a subsequent rotation caused by acting on the head 13, the screw 11 gets substantially rotated by an angle of 90° in such a way that its end 12 gets housed into the grooves 21 of the top surface 20 of the second bushing 8 (Figure 12). In this way the coupling of the two bushings 8 and 9 is made stable by the compression of the ring 15 that guarantees also the watertight sealing of the closing device according to the invention.
