Abstract

This invention relates to a method of determining the volume of liquid (50) in a reservoir (52), which includes the steps of feeding a pressurised gas through a flow path (26) to a low point in the reservoir (52), measuring the back pressure in the flow path (26) with pressure measuring means (16), and using the measured back pressure to calculate the depth of liquid (50) in the reservoir (52). This invention extends to an apparatus (10) for use in determining the volume of liquid (50) in a reservoir (52), and to a probe (12) suitable for use in the apparatus (10). The invention also relates to a method of detecting the presence of contaminants in a body of liquid (50).
