Abstract

A reinforced component (10) is made by providing a mold (20, 22) which has a series of grooves (24) in a first pattern. The grooves (24) define a series of ribs (13) of the component (10). A series of reinforcing bundles (16, 18) has a plurality of strands encased by a first organic resin. The reinforcing bundles (16,18) a re laid out in a second pattern. The second pattern corresponds with a least a portion of the first pattern. The reinforcing bundles are positioned within the grooves (24). A molten second organic resin is injected into the mold. The second organic resin is compatible with the first organic resin to enhance bonding therebetween. The second organic resin is allowed to solidify and the reinforced component (10) is removed from the mold (20, 22).
