Abstract

An apparatus (10) for aspirating a sample is disclosed that comprises a sample-receiving chamber (28) connectable to a source of suction (20) via a valve (369 within the chamber (28), and an externally accessible operating mechanism (40) linked to the valve (36), thereby to permit selective connection between the chamber (28) and the source (20). The apparatus (10) allows for the single-handed fine needle aspiration of cytological specimens.
