Abstract

A heat-generating element includes a body or substrate (13) made of ceramics having electrically resistive and heat conductive properties. The body (13) of the heat-generating element has at least one heat-generating surface layer (11) with a resistivity smaller than the resistivity of the ceramic body in regions outside the at least one heat-generating layer (11). The heat-generating layer (11) is formed by heat treating the body (13) .
