  • Drug pumps are preferably used to deliver drug solutions or drug emulsions parenterally (e.g. subcutaneously, intravenously, intraperitoneally) into humans or animals into the organism over several hours or days at a given uniform or variable delivery rate. Drug pumps are also suitable for oral, rectal and transdermal drug delivery.
  • Implantable infusion pumps (EP00513299B1) and externally portable pumps (EP00168472B1) are described for the parenteral administration of medicinal substances. Pumps can be combined with injection syringes, from which the drug is released by advancing the syringe plunger (EP00142736B). Controlling the release via a threaded rod is described in EP0916353.
