Abstract

A method is disclosed for inhibiting the translation of a mRNA encoding thymidylate synthase (TS). The method includes contacting the mRNA, or a cell expressing the mRNA, with a peptide consisting essentially of from about 10 consecutive amino acids to about 25 amino acids of the peptide interface region of TS. The peptide binds to the mRNA encoding TS and inhibits the translation of the mRNA encoding TS. Methods for identifying agents that bind TS mRNA and inhibit the translation of the TS mRNA are also disclosed. Methods are also disclosed for treating a subject with a peptide consisting essentially of from about 10 consecutive amino acids to about 25 amino acids of the peptide interface region of TS.
