Splash guard for kitchen ranges
The present invention relates to a splash guard for kitchen ranges and comprising a flexible screen or a roller curtain, which can be retracted and extended to a length desired in order to cover at least a side range of the top of the stove between the same and a ventilator and at the same time guiding cooking fumes in a direction upwards to the stove ventilator.
Most kitchens of today usually is provided with a stove ventilator, by which cooking fumes are transported out from the kitchen or eliminated by aid of a carbon filter. When food is cooked and especially when you are roosting heavy cooking fumes are constituted at the same time as grease is splashing from the stove to the kitchen ranges which causes that it is required an enormous work for cleaning up not only the upper surface of the stove but also neighboring surfaces in the kitchen.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the problems mentioned above by aid of a splash guard of the kind described above and said splash guard consists of a screen or roller curtain which can be rolled up or retracted in a cassette, which is attachable for example in the ventilator mantle above the stove and which can accommodate the curtain when it is not used. The curtain is extended when you are going to roost and in this way will protect the neighboring equipment in the kitchen, which otherwise can be soiled by smoke, grease and dirt accumulation. The characterizing features of the invention are stated in the claims enclosed.
Thanks to the invention a splash guard has now been provided which in an excellent way fulfills its purposes at the same time as it is also very cheap and simple to manufacture. The splash guard can be mounted in most kitchen ventilators and is very simple to mount, since no screws or bore holes are eeded. Fur-
thermore, the splash guard is very easy to keep clean. The material in the same can consist of stainless steel both for the reason of hygiene and security. In use the curtain in the splash guard can be extended to a position desired and be locked in its extended position by aid of a special locking device. The curtain together with its cassette can be adjusted in deep direction in a simple way, since the whole splash guard is displaceable fixed to the underside of the ventilator. After use the curtain can very easy be removed and cleaned in normal dish wa- ter and if needed the cassette can be dished, since it is very easy to withdraw from the underside of the ventilator. After cleaning the cassette is first mounted, eventually by aid of its rail, to the underside of the ventilator, whereupon the curtain is hanged up, whereupon it can be rolled up and locked by aid of its locking device.
The invention will be described closer below by aid of a preferred embodiment example with reference to the drawings enclosed, in which
Fig. 1 schematically shows a side view of a splashing guard according to the invention intended to be mounted on the underside of a stove ventilator,
Fig. 2 shows an end view of the cassette having a curtain retracted,
Fig. 3 shows an end view of the cassette from the other side, from which can be seen the slot from which the axis of the curtain in the cassette is removably fixed,
Fig. 4 shows a side view of the hand knob used for retracting a curtain into the cassette and
Fig. 5 shows a schematic perspective view of an embodiment example for an attachment of the cassette in a fixing rail, which e.g. is intended to be fixed on the other side of a ventilator by aid of double adhering tape .
A preferred embodiment example of the present invention is illustrated in the drawing, said example consists of a splash guard 1 for stoves comprising a flexible screen or curtain 3 provided in a cassette 2. The curtain 3 is extendable to a length desired to cover at least a side space of the upper side of a stove between the same and a stove ventilator and at this time guide eventual cooking fumes in a direction to the stove ventilator. The curtain 3 is removably supported in the cassette 2, which is mountable to an under edge of the stove ventilator by aid of a fastening rail 4. The fastening rail 4, which can be fixed by aid of a double adhering tape 7 to the under edge of the stove ventilator, supports said cassette either by aid of a magnetic force or by aid of a dovetail formed slot 5 having cooperating projections 6, so that the cassette is displaceable in a deep direction of the stove either having an extended or retracted curtain 3.
The fastening rail 4 can be formed according to an example of the invention of a magnetic material for supporting of the cas- sette 2 in that case that it is manufactured of a metal . The fastening rail 4 in turn, is as mentioned above attachable against the under edge of the stove ventilator by aid of the double adhering tape 7. According to an alternative embodiment example the fastening rail 4 can support the splashing guard by aid of the dovetail formed slot 5 having cooperating projections 6. In this case the cassette 2 comprises a longitudinal, T- shaped projection 8, a shaft of which extends from the underside 10 of the rail 4 for cooperation with a longitudinal slot 12 with a corresponding shape, said slot 12 is provided in the up- per side 11 of the cassette.
The curtain 3, in the example illustrated, is manufactured of a metal web or a flameproof PVC and is provided with a rod 14 in its lower edge 13, which also can be made of stainless steel. The rod 14 is intended to eliminate movements of the curtain 3 and to keep the same extended in an extended position.
The curtain 3 is supported by a shaft 15, which is journalled into two opposite recesses 16, 17 in the cassette 2. One of the recesses 17 in the cassette 2 extends into a labyrinth slot 18, through which one end 19 of the shaft 15 is removable from its rolled up position to a position outside the cassette 2. In the last mentioned position also the opposite end 20 of the shaft 15 extendable from its journalled position in the cassette 2, whereupon the same can be cleaned in a suitable way. By this special position adjustment of the cassette at the under side of the stove ventilator, the same can be easily displaced in the deep direction of the stove in dependence of the position of a frying pan on the stove and in which the food is made.
At least one end 17 of the shaft 15 extends out from one gable wall 21 of the cassette 2 to end in a hand knob 22. The hand knob 22 is used for the operation of the curtain 3 and is provided with means 23 for cooperation with a locking device 24, by aid of which the length of extension of the curtain can be locked to positions desired.
As mentioned above the splash guard according to the invention is very easy to mount, since no screws or bore holes are needed and it is also easy and simple to keep clean. The mounting can be done in that you first remove a protection tape placed on the fastening rail 4, whereupon the self adhering tape 7 of the rail is exposed and the rail can be attached to the ventilator. After that the cassette 2 with the curtain 3 is put in position by an easy handgrip on the fastening rail.4, which either is magnetic or is provided with a dovetail - formed slot having cooperating
projections for supporting said cassette. When the curtain 3 shall be extended the locking device 24 is first loosened by aid of a hook from the knob 22 and after that the curtain 3 can be extended to a length desired and be looked in its extended posi- tion by aid of said locking device 24. In order to achieve the best effect the curtain ought to be supported a couple of millimeters from the outside of the stove. After use the locking. device 24 can be loosened by an easy handgrip, whereupon the curtain is retracted and locked in its retracted position. Alterna- tively the curtain can of course be formed with a spring- and locking device in accordance with a normal roller blind.
When the curtain shall be cleaned it is extended, whereupon it is loosened or removed from the cassette 2. The curtain then can be cleaned in usual dishwater and if necessary it can also be dished. After cleaning the cassette is first mounted on its attaching rail, whereupon the curtain is supported into the cassette .
