Abstract

A steerable wheeled device such as an in-line skate has a hollow or dish-shaped wheel (11), a wheel bearing (13) and a wheel support (14) connecting the wheel to a steering structure (15, 16), that extends substantially within the outer radius of the wheel, and steers as the user's weight is displaced. The device preferably has a side-mounted chassis (21) and oversize wheels (10) positioned in front and in back of the user's foot. The chassis may contain a damping and centering force mechanism, and brakes such as drum or disk brakes may be connected to one or more wheels to be actuated by the movement of a user’s boot.
