Abstract

The invention relates to a comminution machine comprising a drive and cutting unit that consists of two drive rolls (7, 9). In one of these drive rolls a circular knife (19) is mounted substantially in the center thereof, which knife engages in a knife groove (17) of the other roll. A cartridge (30) is pushed in at an angle so that the cutting unit cuts into the wall of the cartridge along a helical line and cuts off a continuous chip. The oblique position of the cartridge is forced by an oblique surface (15) and/or by a guiding run-in collar (44). The continuos chip is cut up into short segments by a chip cutting unit that is provided with a chopper (11).
