Adjacent the opposite end of the cigarette from the mouthpiece is positioned a glow-bar lighter, similar to those commonly found in car “cigar-lighters", and which is adapted to be operated at will by the user to light a cigarette within the housing.

  • a first charcoal filter 10 to remove noxious products, especially carbon monoxide, from the smoke.
  • the filtered smoke emerging from the filter then passes into an exit region, generally indicated at 14, in which a fan and its motor 1 1 and a second filter 12, eg of char- coal, are located.
  • the fan creates a pressure gradient within the housing which is sufficient to expel clean air from the housing through a suitable orifice or orifices 15.

  • the exit region 14 of the housing includes a pair of fans and their motors 1 1 a and 1 1 b, one upstream and one downstream of the second filterl 2. The combined action of the two fans 1 1 a and 1 1 b improves airflow through the unit.
  • the housing 1 is provided internally with a manual valve 16 and one or more air inlets 18, as in the second embodiment, and a single fan and motor at the exit region 14, as in the first embodiment.
  • the housing may simply be opened and the ashes safely disposed of in a suitable receptacle in readiness for a new cigarette. It is expected that the charcoal filter would need replacing after approximately 100 cigarettes.
  • the housing is therefore designed to enable the spent filters to be readily removed and new replacements inserted in their place.

  • the invention has been described solely with reference to cigarettes, it could apply equally to cigars or the like. In this case, it would simply be necessary to ensure that the housing is of such a size and shape to accommodate a cigar etc in the appropriate compartment and that the other components of the unit are suitable to achieve satisfactory filtering.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une unité individuelle permettant de fumer en vase clos, comprenant un logement (1) pouvant être ouvert de façon à avoir accès à l'intérieur de celui-ci, un compartiment de logement permettant d'y placer une cigarette, un cigare, etc. (2), et des moyens de filtre (9, 10) placés dans ledit logement conçus pour filtrer des produits de combustion provenant d'une cigarette allumée dans le logement. Ce logement possède des embouts buccaux d'aspiration et d'expiration (3, 8) et des entrées d'air (18). Au moins un ventilateur (11) favorise l'expulsion des produits de combustion hors du logement à travers un premier et un second filtres à charbon de bois (10, 12), et éventuellement un filtre d'humidité (9). Une résistance à incandescence (6) permet d'allumer une cigarette, et peut être actionnée manuellement à l'aide d'un commutateur (16). La puissance nécessaire peut être produite par au moins une batterie dans un compartiment séparé. Le logement peut être ouvert de façon à éliminer les cendres et à charger une nouvelle cigarette. Le dispositif n'a pas besoin d'être plus large qu'une télécommande de TV.
