Abstract

An un-sintered ceramic composition is disclosed which in one embodiment comprises a major amount of an aluminum-based component and a minor amount of a mineralizer/glass additive component, wherein the mineralizer/glass additive component comprises at least one boron-containing glass compound and at least two different alkaline-earth metal compounds. In another embodiment, a sintered ceramic composition is disclosed which comprises a major amount of alumina, a minor amount of boric oxide, and a minor amount of at least two different alkaline-earth metal oxides, wherein the metal oxides are independently selected from beryllium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide. Additionally, a method for making a sintered ceramic composition and a sintered ceramic construction article and/or materials is disclosed.
