  • the filler tube adapter is designed in such a way that if there is not a perfect seal between the truncated cone fill tube adapter and the sphere surface nozzle contacting it (in fact, it is typical that a perfect bubble proof seal would not exist) then the excess pressure or excess fuel will be received in interstitial cavity 224 and will travel downwardly through slotted openings 226 or 228 to the atmosphere and then be dissipated. It should also be understood that while this is occurring the vapor vacuum pump will also be operating as rapidly as possible to pull the fuel vapor back through the system. This same venting system is utilized to allow water which may have collected in the fuel filler tube to be dissipated in that it will flow through interstitial cavity 224 and out openings 226 and 228 as described.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une structure formée d'un pistolet de distribution de combustible liquide et un adaptateur de tuyau de remplissage de combustible associés servant à mettre en route un système de ravitaillement robotisé. La surface avant du bout du pistolet adopte une forme sphérique saillante alors que l'embouchure de l'adaptateur du tuyau de remplissage en métal présente une section conique tronquée rentrée vers l'intérieur. Le bout du pistolet de distribution sphérique est guidé en position par l'embouchure conique de l'adaptateur du tuyau de remplissage et assure l'étanchéité entre les deux pour que le ravitaillement s'effectue sans dommage même si le véhicule en cours de ravitaillement bouge légèrement, notamment lors de l'entrée ou de la sortie du véhicule par les passagers. Des capteurs sont espacés sur le pourtour d'un manchon entourant le bout du pistolet de manière à déceler si ce dernier a été correctement introduit dans l'embouchure de l'adaptateur du tuyau de remplissage. Ces capteurs peuvent être sous forme d'interrupteurs électriques actionnés par pression ou par contact. Selon une variante, les capteurs peuvent être formés de trois bornes de contact électrique au moins placées dans le bout du pistolet de sorte que les contacts électriques créés à travers l'embouchure conique de l'adaptateur soient à faible courant. Le ravitaillement combustible commence dès que les emplacements des capteurs de pistolet sont détectés afin d'assurer un positionnement correct par rapport à l'embouchure de l'adaptateur. La fin du ravitaillement a lieu dès la détection d'un décalage d'un des capteurs.
