At least one sealing member (17) is arranged at the bottom of the outlet recess (10) at the respective contact hole (10.1) and encloses it. The respective sealing member (17) shows an inner opening with a diameter less than the diameter of the respective contact pin (18), a sealing being attained between the respective contact pin (18) and the respective contact hole (10.1) when the contact pin (18) is inserted into the contact hole (10.1).

Description

WATER-PROTECTED ELECTRICAL SOCKET
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to an against water- splashing protected electrical outlet showing an outlet recess with one or more pin holes intended for the reception of an electric plug provided with contact pins for the transmission of electricity, the outlet recess being provided with an opening and closing device or a child protection that seals the pin holes when the outlet is not in use. BACKGROUND TECHNICS
Electrical outlets occur in many different embodiments: wire outlets, surface mounted wall outlets, recessed wall outlets, power tracks, outlet boxes, outlet systems in front openings for ducts and in other service carriers and so on. In order to get so-called splash- proof outlets, Swedish protection degree of IP44, these are generally provided with a separate, protective cover that prevents water or other moisture ingress into the outlet recess and farther to the live parts.
In electrical outlets child protection is often used to prevent that others than plugs may be inserted into the outlets. Child protection and encapsulation generally are designed as two completely separate functional parts, where the child protection consists of mechanical interlocking systems placed on the inside of the outlet. It generally needs two cylindrical connecting pins to effect the mechanical interlocking system parallel with a certain pressing force in order to introduce a connector that after completed rotation may be inserted completely.
The encapsulation is generally arranged as a hinged protective cover provided with a return spring that sees to that the protective cover, often with sealing members, is placed with a certain force against the outer periphery of the outlet/inlet recess. If the spring function fails to appear, the risk of failing or reduced tightening functions will appear. When using a splash- proof outlet the cover firstly has to be lifted up or folded or pushed aside in order to then push the connector into the outlet. That operation requires often the simultaneous use of both hands.
The object of the present invention is to achieve an electrical outlet where the above mentioned cover may be eliminated but with preserved ability to prevent the ingress of splashing water. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The object of the present invention is thus to achieve an electrical outlet that is protected against water-splashing, showing an outlet recess with one or more contact openings or contact holes intended to receive an electric plug provided with contact pins for the transmission of electricity and that not shows the disadvantages of the known outlets. The outlet recess is provided with a device that may be opened and closed and that seals the contact holes when the outlet is not in use. This device with advantage may consist of a child protection that prevents that for instance children stick in conductive objects into a contact opening and get hurt. At least one sealing member is arranged at the bottom of the outlet recess at the respective contact hole and encloses it. The respective sealing member shows an inner opening with a diameter less than the diameter of the respective contact pin, as a result of which a sealing is attained between the respective contact pin and the respective contact hole when the contact pin is inserted into the contact hole.
In a preferred embodiment at least one sealing member may be fixedly arranged at the respective contact hole and enclose this at the under side of the bottom of the outlet recess and protrudes from the under side of the outlet recess, a sealing being attained between the child protection and the under side of the outlet recess when the child protection is in closed position. The respective sealing member then preferably may be ring shaped and arranged in an against the under side of the outlet recess open slot and seal both against the contact pin and against the child protection. In an alternate embodiment two sealing members may be arranged at the respective contact hole, one sealing against the respective contact pin and the other against the child protection . In a further alternate embodiment of the outlet according to the invention at least one sealing member may be fixedly arranged on the child protection at the respective contact hole and enclose it when the child protection is in closed position. The child protection may be then provided with towards the under side of the recess protruding projections showing inclined upper sides which protrude into these holes when the child protection covers the contact holes, one sealing member enclosing the respective head. In a further alternate embodiment of the outlet according to the invention the sealing members may be an integrated part of the inside in the recess and extends through the contact holes a short distance from the underside of the outlet recess. The sealing members may also be an integrated part of the underside of the outlet recess alone or in combination with the inside in the outlet recess.
The sealing elements also may be an integrated part of the upper side of the child protection and at least enclose the projections on it.
One advantage with the invention that is attained is that splash proof outlets may be achieved without any outside components that may be damaged and thereby a safer outlet is obtained. Another advantage is that the same principle may be used for other types of outlets as for instance low-voltage outlets or data outlets. Further features and characteristics concerning the present invention are evident from the description to the drawings below and from the claims. DESCRIPTION TO THE DRAWINGS The invention is described below as an example of an embodiment in connection with the enclosed drawings.
Figure 1 shows a known electrical outlet with cover and provided with a return spring.
Figure 2 shows an outlet recess provided with a turnable child protection.
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a child protection as an integral part of figure 2 and with symbolically drawn contact pins.
Figure 4 shows a sectional view showing a part of an outlet recess provided with a child protection and the sealing members being placed at the contact holes on the underside of the outlet recess.
Figure 5 shows a sectional view showing a part of an outlet recess provided with a child protection and the sealing members being placed partly at the contact holes and partly on the child protection.
Figure 6 shows the child protection according to figure 4 in an against the outlet recess closed position.
Figure 7 shows the child protection according to figure 4 in a position where contact pins have been inserted through the contact holes in the outlet recess.
Figure 8 shows the bottom of an outlet recess with sealing members in an alternate embodiment at the contact holes . A conventional outlet shows an outlet recess 10 for an electric plug and in the bottom of the recess arranged contact holes 10.1 for the contact pins of the plug, as shown in figure 1. The sealing function is achieved by providing the outlet recess with an outside cover 11 that lies close to the front of the outlet which is provided with a sealing member 12. The cover is hinged and provided with a return spring 13. The example of an embodiment in figure 2 shows an earthed outlet without outside cover seen in the direction of insertion towards the bottom of the outlet recess 10 and provided with a child protection 16. In the bottom of the outlet recess 10 an earthing device 14 is attached and on the underside of the recess 10 the turnable child protection 16 is arranged. The child protection 16 that is moved by the electric plug is shown in closed and open position. The upper side of the child protection 16 is provided with projections 16.1 which correspond to the contact holes 10.1 in the bottom of the outlet recess 10 and show inclining upper sides by means of which the child protection 16 is turned around an axle in the direction of insertion when the contact pins 18 are inserted into the contact holes 10.1 and are brought in contact with the projections 16.1. The sealing function is achieved by the application elastic sealing members 17 in or around the contact holes 10.1 of the outlet recess either directly on the outlet recess 10, according to figure 4, or even on the child protection 16, according to figure 5.
In the example shown in figure 4 the sealing members 17 are arranged in towards the underside of the outlet recess 10 open slots 10.2 that enclose the respective contact hole 10.1, a sealing being attained of the contact holes 10.1 both when the child protection 16 is in closed position and lies close to the sealing members 17 on the underside of the outlet recess 10 and when the child protection 16 is in open position, when the sealing members 17 enclose the contact pins 18. In the example shown in figure 5 two sealing members 17 are arranged at the respective contact hole 10.1, one sealing member 17 being inserted into a slot 10.3 in the wall of the contact hole 10.1 and the other being arranged to enclose the corresponding head 16.1 on the child protection 16. Characteristic for the solution that is shown in figure 4 is that ring-shaped sealing members 17 are arranged on the underside of the outlet recess 10 and show an opening with a diameter less then the diameter of the contact pin 18 and projects into and encloses the rim of the contact holes 10.1. When the child protection 16 is in closed position, as is shown in figure 6, the child protection 16 lies close to the sealing members 17. When a plug provided with contact pins 18 is pushed down into the outlet recess 10, as is shown in figure 7, the child protection 16 is pushed downwards by the contact pins 18 and at the same time is turned out of contact with the tips of the contact pins 18. The sealing members 17 then seal against the surface of the contact pins 18. Figure 8 shows an alternate embodiment of the sealing members 17 at the contact holes 10.1, where they are an integrated part of the inside of the outlet recess 10 and extend inwards through the contact holes 10.1 and some distance along the underside of the outlet recess 10 around the respective contact hole 10.1. The respective sealing member 17 shows an egg-shaped section 17.1 that is directed towards the centre of the contact holes 10.1.

Claims

1. An against water-splashing protected electrical outlet showing an outlet recess (10) with one or more pin holes (10.1) intended to receive an electric plug provided with contact pins (18) for the transmission of electricity, the outlet recess (10) being provided with an opening and closing device or a child protection (16) that seals the pin holes (10.1) when the outlet is not in use, characterized in that at least one sealing member (17) is arranged at the bottom of the outlet recess (10) at the respective contact hole (10.1) and encloses it and that the respective sealing member (17) shows an inner opening with a diameter less than the diameter of the respective contact pin (18), as a result of which a sealing is attained between the respective contact pin (18) and the respective contact hole (10.1) when the contact pin (18) is inserted into the contact hole (10.1) .

Outlet according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one sealing member (17) is fixedly arranged at the respective contact hole (10.1) and encloses this at the under side of the bottom of the outlet recess (10) and protrudes from the under side of the outlet recess (10) , a sealing being attained between the child protection (16) and the under side of the outlet recess (10) when the child protection (16) is in closed position.
3. Outlet according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that at least one sealing member (17) is fixedly arranged on the child protection (16) at the respective contact hole (10.1) and encloses it when the child protection (16) is in closed position.

Outlet according to claim 3, characterized in that the child protection (16) then may be provided with towards the under side of the recess (10) protruding projections (16.1) showing inclined upper sides which, when the child protection (16) covers the contact holes (10.1), protrude into these holes and that one sealing member (17) encloses the respective head (16.1).
5. Outlet according to claim 2, characterized in that the respective sealing member (17) is ring-shaped and arranged in one against the underside of the outlet recess (19) open slot.
6. Outlet according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the sealing members (17) are an integrated part of the inside of the outlet recess.
7. Outlet according to claim 1, 2 or 6, characterized in that the sealing members (17) are an integrated part of the underside of the outlet recess (10) and extend through the contact holes (10.1) a short distance from the underside of the outlet recess (10).
8. Outlet according to claim 1, 2 or 6, characterized in that the sealing members (17) are an integrated part of the underside of the outlet recess (10) .
9. Outlet according to claim 3, characterized in that the sealing members (17) are an integrated part of the upper side of the child protection (16) and at least enclose the projections (16.1) of it.
