Abstract
A foot-actuated hydraulic flushing valve has an inlet (11) and an outlet (12). The inlet (11) and outlet (12) are on opposite sides of the valve with the outlet (12) higher than the inlet (11). The inlet (11) has a smaller diameter than the outlet (12). A shutter disc (23) is placed between the inlet (11) and outlet (12) when the valve is in the closed position. When the rubber bonnet (36) is depressed, the shutter disc (23) is lowered and the inlet (11) can communicate with the outlet (12). A spring (25) biases the shutter disc (23) to the closed position when the rubber bonnet (36) is not depressed.
Description
FOOT-ACTUATED HYDRAULIC FLUSHING VALVE
The present specification refers to a foot-actuated body with valve for hydraulic flushing in sanitary installations, which is basically comprised of a body with valve designed and developed to be used in general in sanitary installations and which actuation is effected by the foot of the user thus rendering it more hygienic preventing possible ende ia as it avoids handling taps of lavatories and/or bidet, buttons or cords of flushing devices of toilet bowls, urinals and others further offering greater water economy since when the external pressure over the body with valve ceases the supply of water flow is immediately stopped in opposition to what happens in conventional equipment such as for example those using coupled water reservoirs in which water flushing only stops when all the water contained therein ends, as well as in conventional equipment actuated by buttons in which the valve is located approximately 80 cm above the toilet bowl and when the button has the pressure on it released the water flow is cut, but the water contained inside the piping between the actuator button and the toilet bowl flows without pressure and accordingly useless and therefore wasted. In present foot-actuated body with valve for hydraulic flushing in sanitary installations the actuator mechanism thereof always works inside the water as it is located on
the floor and, therefore, below the water inlet to the toilet bowl; thus every time it is actuated the water is already in the inlet of the toilet bowl and the flushing operation is started with pressure and upon ceasing its operation there is no waste of water; said body with valve when used in wash basins and bidets in place of taps is also much more economic further to being hygienic since in conventional systems the simple operation of washing hands and face can consume up to 6 liters of water whereas employing the body with valve the consumption is about 300 ml, that is, almost 20 times less as upon removal of the hand from below the tap the foot is also removed from the actuator of the body with valve thus interrupting immediately the water flow thus generating a substantial economy of water whereas in conventional systems the tap is only closed at the end of the whole operation, that is, after wetting the hands, spreading soap, washing, wetting the face, spreading soap again in the hands, spreading soap in the face and finally washing the face; in addition, the maintenance of the body with valve is extremely easy since in case it needs repair it is sufficient to open the upper cover thereof to effect the replacement of valve refill, this operation takes only 2 minutes without the need to employ specialized workmanship neither special tools and the coupling of the upper cover of the body with valve is performed with the aid of an intermediate-coupling element which can be replaced in case of damage to the thread
thereof assuring the integrity of said body with valve what is the most frequent occurrence in the operations of replacement of parts comprising a hydraulic valve and results in useless equipment . The present foot-actuated body with valve for hydraulic flushing in sanitary installations comprises basically a body with valve having a substantially cylindrical shape closed at the bottom and provided with an inlet tubular projection that receives the water flow retained in the interior thereof and by the external actuation exerted by the user's foot pressing downwards the upper surface of said body with valve the water flow is released by the outlet tubular projection of smaller diameter which is displaced upwards in relation to said inlet tubular projection and said inlet and outlet tubular projections for the water flow an further be arranged in an angle in relation to said body with valve and the upper surface of said body with valve is provided with a semicircle shaped head in which the external pressure will be exerted and that will be mechanically transferred to an actuator that in turn transfer it to a shutter that is moved downwards releasing the passage of the water flow retained inside said body with valve and in order to retain this flow it is sufficient to cease the pressure exerted over said actuator's head and said body with valve will revert its operation, that is, the shutter will return due to the action of a return spring and the pressure of water
head thus closing the passage to the water flow taking back the actuator to its rest position.

pressure of spring 25, which is arranged centrally below said shutter disc and above said lower closing surface of said inner body and on top of said shutter disc the lower vertical stem 26 of the actuator is centrally supported and in the opposite end of said lower vertical stem of the actuator the disc 27 of the actuator is centrally supported and above it there is supported centrally the upper vertical stem 28 of the actuator and the opposite end of said upper vertical stem of the actuator is supported against the lower surface of upper central circular closing element 29 of said inner body and the free upper end of said inner body exceeds the height both of its upper central closing element and the free upper end of said intermediate body and also has in central alignment with said inlet and outlet orifices for the water flow square notches 30 which are also arranged diametrically opposed to each other and are also positioned in correspondence with the square notches of said intermediate body and in these notches the radial projections 31 of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body will be housed which are arranged diametrically opposed to each other and said upper central circular closing element of said inner body further has in its upper surface an orthogonal projection 32 of oblong shape provided with central hole 33 that also traverses said upper central circular closing element of said inner body and said oblong orthogonal projection being arranged perpendicular to said radial
projections of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body thus being configured as the refill of the valve and in the central holes of said oblong projection and said upper central circular closing element of said inner body the lower vertical stem 34 of actuator head 35 is inserted and said actuator head having a semicircle shape and that over it a rubber bonnet 36 is arranged which has a substantially circular shape with the cross section of its central region 37 in the shape of a semicircle and below the same there is a peripheral region 38 of arched cross section, which overlaps a portion of the upper horizontal surface 39 of said bonnet forming a horizontal recess 40 between the lower horizontal surface of said arched peripheral region and the portion of the upper horizontal surface of said bonnet overlapped by the same and in the lower surface 41 of said bonnet and along all its peripheral extension there is provided an orthogonal tab 42 further having in this lower surface of said bonnet and circumscribed to said peripheral orthogonal tab two orthogonal projections 43 of rectangular cross section, which are arranged diametrically opposed to each other and are placed directly above said radial projections of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body and that extend for a segment comprising the thickness of said outer and intermediate bodies and the lower horizontal surface of the peripheral orthogonal tab of said bonnet will be supported against the horizontal
peripheral surface 44 of the intermediate-coupling element 45 of upper cover 46 of the body with valve and both said intermediate-coupling element and the upper cover have a circular shape and said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve has a "L" like cross section and is provided with upper central orifice 47, the inside diameter of which coincides with the outside diameter of said inner body and the free upper end of said inner body slightly exceeds the height of the upper surface 48 of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve such that when screwing said upper cover of the body with valve on said intermediate-coupling element this upper end of said inner body is pressed downwards by said actuator bonnet against the interior of said intermediate body such as to guarantee the tightness of the whole body with valve; in the upper surface of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve there are provided two rectangular grooves 49 that, similar to the lower orthogonal projections of said bonnet, are also positioned directly above said radial projections of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body and extend for a segment comprising the thickness of said outer and intermediate bodies; in said rectangular grooves said lower orthogonal projections of said bonnet are inserted which act as blocking elements impairing the rotational movement of said bonnet being further provided in the bottom of the edges of the
rectangular grooves of the upper surface of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve and in a region with thickness corresponding to said intermediate body two wedge-shaped projections 50 arranged diametrically opposed to each other and having its downward surfaces directed in the anticlockwise direction contrary to said rectangular grooves and that will correspond and cooperate with said wedge- shaped projections existing on the free upper end of said intermediate body such as to press it downwards against the interior of said outer body equalizing the height thereof and assuring complete tightness of this assembly and said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve is further provided with internal thread 51 that will be screwed on the external thread provided in said outer body and below said internal thread there is further provided in said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve a semicircular cavity 52 for engaging the sealing ring located between said external flange and the beginning of said external thread of said outer body and said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve also has an external flange 53 the outside circumference of which coincides with the external flange of said outer body both having threaded orifices 54 and 55, respectively, which are located perpendicular to the water flow direction and that at the time of screwing said intermediate-coupling element
to the body with valve on said outer body will be kept aligned and in which a screw (not illustrated) will be inserted such as to impair relative movement between them when screwing said upper cover of the body with valve on said intermediate-coupling element, what will happen when screwing the external thread 56 of said intermediate- coupling element to the internal thread 57 of said upper cover of the body with valve, which further has in the upper surface thereof a central orifice through which the semicircle-shaped central region of said bonnet and the peripheral region 58 of said central orifice of the upper surface of said cover will be embedded in said horizontal recess of said bonnet, thus impeding any displacement of the same when the external pressure is exerted on the actuator head, being further provided as finishing part of said body with valve a cap 59 having a circular shape with inclined peripheral tabs 60.
The construction design of present foot-actuated body with valve for hydraulic flushing in sanitary installations makes it possible the replacement of the valve refill which is comprised of said inner body without the need for the complete opening of the body with valve, that is, without the need for the removal of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve, since said inner body is externally circumscribed by the central orifice of the upper surface of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve and has a
height slightly exceeding said upper surface of said intermediate-coupling element of the upper cover of the body with valve thus allowing said inner body to be removed from inside said intermediate body and the placement of the new inner body (refill) will be guided by vertical sliding of said radial projections of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body along said rectangular notches provided in said intermediate body and the insertion of said inner body in said intermediate body is facilitated due to the existence of holes provided in the lower closing surface of said inner body, which will allow the water contained inside said intermediate body to flow into said inner body and said inner body can also act as a regulator to the water flow what will be obtained as a function of the concentricity degree between the inlet and outlet orifices for the water flow of said intermediate and inner bodies with the inlet and outlet tubular projections for the water flow of said outer body, respectively, and the concentricity degree will vary according to the angle of rotation, as an assembly, of said intermediate and inner bodies inside said outer body and that is obtained through the rotation of said oblong orthogonal projection which is arranged on top of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body and this rotation is limited by said orthogonal projection provided in the upper edge of said outer body in the direction of said inlet tubular projection for the water flow and that serves as a
limitation for the rotational displacement of said radial projections of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body and, therefore, of said intermediate and inner bodies which may describe an arc of 180° in both directions having as limit positions the total closure and opening of the orifices of said intermediate and inner bodies in relation to the tubular projections of said outer body, respectively.
The construction design of the present foot-actuated body with valve for hydraulic flushing in sanitary installations further prevents the occurrence of hydraulic ram inside the body with valve when the external pressure exerted on actuator head of said body with valve is ceased due to the fact that when pressed said actuator head will perform a vertical downward displacement together with said lower vertical stem of said actuator head, which in turn will displace downwards the upper vertical stem of actuator together with said disc of actuator which will be placed slightly below the upper edge of outlet orifice for the water flow of said inner body and, therefore, below the upper edges of the orifice and the outlet tubular projection for the water flow of said intermediate and outer bodies, respectively, thus allowing that part of the water leaving said body with valve be deviated towards the chamber formed between the upper surface of said actuator disc and the lower surface of said upper central circular closing element of said inner body flooding it and this
will function as dampening chamber since when the external pressure over said actuator head ceases, said spring centrally arranged over the lower closing surface of said inner body will displace said shutter disc upwards against said inner annular projection of said inner body also displacing upwards said lower vertical stem of actuator and together with this disc of actuator that as it goes upwards compresses the water contained in said chamber and which will gradually flow through the space existing between the periphery of said disc of actuator and the inside wall of said inner body.
