Abstract

Cette invention concerne un procédé de conservation de matériaux poreux, notamment de papier, qui consiste à précipiter du polyparaxylylène à partir d'une phase gazeuse. Ce procédé de conservation consiste essentiellement à chauffer du diparaxylène, et/ou ses dérivés, afin de le sublimer, puis à le pyroloyser dans une chambre sous vide. On polymérise ensuite les produits de la pyrolyse et l'on forme sur le matériau un revêtement conforme de polyparaxylylène. Avant d'effectuer le chauffage de sublimation, on effectue dans cette même chambre un traitement du substrat (matériau poreux consistant principalement en du papier) à l'aide de morpholine gazeuse et en présence de vapeur d'eau. Les vapeurs de morpholine (tetrahydro-1,4-oxazine, diéthylenimidoxyde C4 H9 NO) sont utilisées comme agent neutralisant, et le traitement se fait à l'aide d'une solution à 50 % de morpholine dans une quantité qui dépend de l'acidité (pH) et du type du matériau à conserver. La conservation de matériaux poreux selon ce procédé permet non seulement de les protéger contre l'action nocive du milieu environnant et d'accroître leur résistance, mais aussi de conférer aux qualités susmentionnées la stabilité nécessaire en vue d'une longue conservation.
