  • the nose pads 1 6, 1 7 are adapted so that, in use, they rest on the nose of the wearer of the eyewear assembly 1 .
  • the temples 7, 8 of the preferred embodiment are connected to the frame front 20 by hinges 1 4, 1 5, respectively.
  • Each of the hinges 1 4, 1 5 are preferably provided with a screw 1 6, 1 7 allowing the temples 7, 8 to pivot on the frame front 20 about the screws 1 6, 1 7.
  • the temples 7, 8 terminate at tips 1 2, 1 3, respectively.
  • the tips 1 2, 1 3 are preferably adapted to rest on the ears of the wearer of the eyewear assembly 1 .
  • the frame attachments 3, 4 of the first, second, and third preferred embodiments of the present invention are preferably each comprised of a lens frame 21 , 22, a monocular lens 1 0, 1 1 and flanges 23, 24 serving as interconnecting means.
  • the lenses 10, 1 1 are fixedly mounted in the lens frames 21 , 22 so that the lenses cannot be readily demounted from frames 21 , 22 by the end user (or wearer).
  • Known methods of mounting lenses may be used to mount the lenses 1 0, 1 1 in the lens frames 21 , 22, so that the lenses can be mounted and demounted by eyeglass makers.
  • the lens frames 21 , 22 may have various shapes, as shown in Figure 3. These shapes may be varied to provide different appearances to the eyewear assembly 1 when the frame attachments 3, 4 are attached to the base frame 2. It is preferred that the frame attachments are provided in various shapes and colors and with different decorative features to provide a wide selection of frame attachments for use on the base frame 2.
  • the frame attachments 3, 4 are preferably made of a plastic material. However, other material, such as metal, may also be used.
  • the frame attachments 3, 4 when the frame attachments 3, 4 are attached to the base frame 2, the frame attachments 3, 4 are substantially vertically disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the frame front 20 of the base frame 2. Consequently, the appearance of the front of the eyewear assembly 1 may be varied substantially by the end user by changing the frame attachment 3, 4 to one of a different appearance.
  • the removable engagement is obtained through a substantially perpendicular projection from the lens frame 22 forming interconnecting means such as a flange 24. It is preferred that the flange 24 extends around the edge of the lens 1 1 in direction towards the base frame. However, it is possible for the flange 24 to surround only part of the lens 1 1 .
  • the flange 24 preferably has a V-shaped cross-section and is made of a resilient material, such as plastic or thin metal.
  • the flange 24, or 23 when referring to the other frame attachment is preferably adapted to engage to interconnecting means provided on the base frame 2.
  • the interconnecting means is comprised of a groove 26 (or 25 when referring to the lens socket 6) provided on the inside of the lens socket 5.
  • the groove 26 is preferably adapted to engage with the flange 24 and can for example show a V-shaped cross-section, as shown in Figure 4.
  • each lens attachment 3, 4 may be connected to the base frame 2 by positioning each frame attachment 3, 4 in the lens socket 5, 6 such that the flange 23, 24 firmly engages in the groove 25, 26.
  • the frame attachment 3, 4 can be removed from the base frame 2 by disconnecting the flange 23, 24 from the groove 25, 26. This allows for a frame attachment 3, 4 having a different appearance to be attached to the base frame 2 to provide the eyewear assembly 1 with a different appearance.
  • the frame attachment 22 is removably engaged to the base frame through a snap action at joints A.
  • Joints A end elements 26 are shown spaced for clarity reasons it being understood that these elements in use will normally abut each other.
  • the monocular lens 1 1 is fixedly mounted in the frame attachment 22 at joints B.
  • Figure 5 illustrates a first alternative embodiment of the removable engagement between the frame attachment and the base frame.
  • frame attachment 4 is illustrated, and described below but it is to be understood that frame attachment 3 will be of identical configuration, but in mirror image. This also applies in relation to the embodiments depicted in Figures 6 and 7 which are described further below.
  • the base frame 2 is comprised of a bead 31 and the frame attachment 4 is comprised of a flange 33 extending perpendicular from the lens frame 22 and having a groove 32 provided for engaging with the bead 31 .
  • the frame attachment 4 can be connected to the lens socket 6 by engaging the bead 31 of the lens socket in the groove 32 of the lens attachment 4 through a snap action.
  • the flange 33 is preferably resilient so that the lens attachment 4 can be disconnected from the base frame 2.
  • Elements 31 and 32 are shown spaced for clarity reasons it being understood that these elements in use will normally abut each other.
  • Figure 6 illustrates a second alternative embodiment of the removable engagement between the frame attachment and the base frame.
  • the base frame 2 is comprised of a groove 41 on the outside of the lens socket 6.
  • the frame attachment 4 comprises a perpendicular projection from the lens frame 22 forming a flange 42 adapted to engage with the groove 41 on the outside of the lens socket 6.
  • the flange 42 preferably has a V-shaped cross- section and is made of a resilient material, such as plastic or thin metal.
  • the lens attachment 4 may be connected to the base frame 2 by positioning the lens attachment 4 on the lens socket 6 such that the flange 42 firmly engages in the groove 41 .
  • the groove 41 can for example exhibit a V- shaped cross-section, as shown in Figure 6.
  • the lens attachment 4 can be removed from the base frame 2 by disconnecting the flange 42 from the groove 41 .
  • This allows for a frame attachment 4 having a different appearance to be attached to the base frame 2.
  • Elements 41 and 42 are shown spaced for clarity reasons it being understood that these elements in use will normally abut each other.
  • the above embodiments of the present invention provide a number of advantages over the prior art. They allow for different lenses to be used with the same eyewear assembly as the lenses can be easily attached and removed again. For example, clear lenses can be used in one pair of frame attachments to be connected to the base frame for use at night, while tinted lenses can be used in another pair of frame attachments to be connected to the base frame during the day.
  • lenses with different optical characteristics can be attached to the same base frame.
  • lenses for reading purposes can be provided in one pair of lens attachments and lenses for distance vision can be provided in another pair of lens attachments.
  • a spectacle wearer who does not like to use bifocal lenses can use two different pairs of lenses without requiring two completely different sets of eyewear assemblies.
  • Figure 7 illustrates a third alternative embodiment of the preferred invention which differs from the above embodiments in a number of respects.
  • the lenses 1 0, 1 1 are affixed in the lens sockets 5, 6 in the manner known in the prior art, rather than being provided in the lens attachments.
  • lens attachments without lenses can be connected to the base frame 2 to change the appearance of the eyewear assembly 1 .
  • the frame attachment 4 is comprised of the lens frame 22 having a flange 34 extending substantially perpendicular to the lens frame 22.
  • the flange 34 preferably terminates in a bead 35.
  • the frame attachment 4 can be connected to the lens socket 6 so that the flange 34 extends on the outside of the lens socket 6.
  • the frame attachment 34 is removably engaged to the lens socket 6 by the bead 3 abutting against the edge 36 of the outside of the lens socket 6.
  • Elements 35 and 36 are shown spaced for clarity reasons it being understood that these elements in use will normally abut each other.
  • the interconnecting means on the frame attachment may comprise a peripheral portion for both an easier insertion and easier removal of the attachment.
  • Such peripheral portion is external to the lens sockets when the frame attachment is positioned on the base frame and permits insertion or removal of the attachment without the need of touching the lens. Exemplary embodiments of such peripheral portion are indicated with the numerals 50 to 58 in Figures 3a to 3d.

Abstract

L'ensemble concerne un ensemble lunettes et un procédé permettant de le réaliser. Ledit ensemble comporte une monture de base ayant une monture avec deux emboîtements de lentilles, une première fixation de monture et une première lentille monoculaire, montée de manière fixe dans la première fixation de monture, la monture de base étant en prise amovible avec la première fixation de monture par encliquetage.
