Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting an image of an essentially cylindrical surface (13) such as the surface of a hollow space or outer casing of an essentially cylindrical work piece. The inventive method comprises an image detecting unit (1) and an image evaluation unit (2). The image detecting unit (1) is provided with all-round optics (6) which detect light from the entire circumference of the cylindrical surface (13) and projects said light onto a sensor (8). The all-round optics (6) and the cylindrical surface (13) are moved in relation to each other. After a movement along a movement path which can be predetermined has taken place, the image evaluating unit (2) stores the partial image of the surface, whereby said image has just been detected by the sensor (8) and joins all partial images to form an entire image of the surface. The all-round optics (6) and the cylindrical surface (13) are continuously moved in relation to one another.
