Abstract

A water jet system (20) is used underwater with a pile cutter to wash away and erode soil surrounding a pile so that a cutter may cut off the pile at a level below the water bed. The water jet system (20) includes a set of tubing (21,22,23) assembled into a manifold that extends around the opening (14) in the cutter and around the pile, and other tubing elements that extend under the operating system for the cutter. Water is pumped into the tubing (21,22,23) through an appropriate inlet and is jetted from the system through a series of nozzles (54,55,56) formed in the underside of the water jet system (20). The system (20) mounts on the underside of the pile cutter.
