Abstract

The present invention relates to a functional attachment component (4), suitable for complementing a wall or similar structure to be advantageously assembled with a tongue-and-groove joint from sandwich-structure building components formed from skin sheets (1, 2) with an insulation core (3) sandwiched therebetween. The attachment component (4) comprises a functional exterior part (4') remaining visible externally on the building element and an anchoring part (4'') adapted to comply with the edge portions of the building element skin sheets that are shaped to provide the interpanel joint.

Description

Attachment for sandwich panel constructions
The present invention relates to an attachment component suitable for complementing a structure to be assembled from building components, particularly wall panels, formed from skin sheets with an insulation core sandwiched therebetween.
These panel components are typically erected into relati- vely large contiguous surfaces that desirably should be complemented with a more attractive visual decoration. However, the streamlined structure of such panels does not offer the possibility of implementing such variations directly. Sometimes the erection of a building section from panels may require the use of complementing functional component.
The functional attachment component according to the invention is intended to complement such a panel wall as either a decorative component or a functional component remaining visible on the surface of the wall. The functional task may involve a mould/seal duty or a property affecting the acoustic qualities of the wall.
The attachment component comprises two parts : a functional part proper that remains outside the edge of the panel and an anchoring part adapted to comply with the structures providing the interpanel jointing. Primarily, the accessory component is intended for use in con- junction with building components in which the skin sheet parts of the components at their edges are formed into mating tongue-and-groove joint edges serving as the intercomponent joints.
The specifications of the attachment component are disclosed in appended claim 1.
The invention is next illustrated in greater detail with reference to the appended drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the invention in a diagrammatic overall view;
Figure 2 shows a detail of the embodiment of Fig. 1 in an enlarged view;
Figure 3 shows an enlarged detail equivalent to that of Fig. 2 for a modified embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the invention in a diagrammatic overall view.
The application environment of the invention includes the use of building components with a sandwich structure in which the component comprises skin sheets 1 and 2 forming the lining of the component and having an insulation core 3 sandwiched therebetween. In the present embodiment, the skin sheets are primarily made from sheet metal and the insulating core is mineral wool. The skin sheets are adhered to the mineral wool core by glueing. The skin sheets 1 and 2 are contoured at the component edges so as to form a mating joint structure which conventionally is a tongue-and-groove joint.
The attachment component 4 according to the invention comprises a part 4' that remains outside the joint edge of a wall panel or similar assembled structure thus acting as the part of desired decorative function and an anchoring part 4" shaped to conform to the intercomponent joint structure. If a tongue-and-groove structure is used as the intercomponent joint structure, the anchoring part 4" may be formed by a hook extending over the tongue portion of the joint structure so as to remain trapped by the tongue-and-groove structure when the building compo- nents are assembled to mate with each other. The basic form of such a joint structure will be evident from Fig. 2.
To assure positive locking of the anchoring part and allow higher loads, the structure may also use such an anchoring part 6 as is shown in Fig. 3. This part is a contour lath which can be pushed into the gap of the interp- anel joint from the end of the joint. The anchoring part is characterized in that it will be accommodated in its entity by the interior edge portions of the panel, whereby no substantial portion of the anchoring part remains between the abutting joint surfaces.
The exterior part 4 ' of the attachment component can be shaped without restrictions so as to fulfill any need. An essential application is shown in Fig. 4, wherein the exterior part 4 ' of the attachment component is formed by a large-area acoustic absorber tile. Conventionally, such an absorber tile is comprised of an attenuating layer of sound-absorbing material, e.g., of mineral wool having its one surface lined with a perforated sheet. In an implementation according to the invention, this kind of absorber tiles can be mounted on a panel wall at desired points and in appropriate positions.
