Abstract
Description
Glühstiftkerze für BrennkraftmaschinenGlow plug for internal combustion engines
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Vorteile der ErfindungThe invention relates to a glow plug for arrangement in the combustion chamber of air-compressing internal combustion engines according to the preamble of the main claim, as is already known from DE-C 28 02 625. This known glow plug has a glow plug, in which an electrical resistance element embedded in an insulating material, which is composed of two resistance coils connected in series, is arranged. The resistance coil on the combustion chamber side of this resistance element has an essentially temperature-independent resistance and serves as a heating element, while the resistance coil on the combustion chamber has a high positive temperature resistance coefficient and acts as a control element. The mode of operation of such a self-regulating glow plug is already explained in detail in the prior art cited at the outset, so that it should be dispensed with here. In summary, however, it can be said that the resistance of the control coil is low at the beginning of the heating process and a high current flows through the heating coil. As the glow plug is heated, the resistance of the control coil increases and the heating output of the heating coil decreases. This protects the glow plug from overheating. Advantages of the invention
The glow plug according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that the resistance of the control coil is reduced by shortening the proportion of the control coil and thus the heating time is reduced until the starting temperature is reached. Ultimately, the glow plug according to the invention also has the known self-protection function due to the regulating effect with a significantly reduced heating-up time. The clocking of the current through the resistance element after the start temperature has been reached has the advantage that the permissible maximum temperature is not exceeded, as a result of which the service life of the glow plug is significantly increased.
The measures listed in the subclaims allow advantageous developments and improvements of the glow plug specified in the main claim. In the case of a shortened control coil, the entire resistance coil can advantageously be arranged in the glow pencil so that it does not lie in the housing of the glow plug. In this way, only heating of the glow plug and direct heat emission to the combustion chamber are specifically ensured, which makes the losses that would arise if the metal housing were heated unnecessarily, negligible.

Exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing and are described in more detail in the following description. purifies. Beschreibung der AusführungsbeispieleDescription of the embodiments
Die in Figur 1 dargestellte Glühstiftkerze besitzt ein rohr- förmiges Metallgehäuse 11, in dessen Längsbohrung 12 einThe glow plug shown in Figure 1 has a tubular metal housing 11, in the longitudinal bore 12
Brennraumfern ist eine Regelwendel 21 vorgesehen, die einen hohen positiven Temperatur- Widerstandskoeffizienten aufweist .Glow plug 13 is sealed with part of its length. This glow plug 13 has a corrosion-resistant, thin-walled glow tube 14 which is closed at its end on the combustion chamber side. A resistance element 15 extends in the interior of the glow tube 14 in the axial direction. The resistance element 15 is embedded in insulating material 16 and is provided with a connection part 17 for the electric current remote from the combustion chamber. The resistance element 15 is connected to the bottom of the glow tube 14 in an electrically conductive manner on the combustion chamber side. The resistance element 15 shown consists of a heating coil 20 which is arranged on the combustion chamber side. A control coil 21, which has a high positive temperature resistance coefficient, is provided far from the combustion chamber.
Um die Glühstiftkerze mit der verkürzten Regelwendel vor einerFIG. 2 again shows the glow plug 13 in longitudinal section, it being clearly evident here that the control coil 21 is shortened in relation to the embodiment in FIG. 1. Fewer helical gears are provided here, so that the entire control coil lies in the glow plug part which is not enclosed by the housing 11. Figure 3 shows the temperature behavior of the individual glow pencil candles over time. Curve 30 shows the temperature profile of a conventional glow plug, as is also shown in FIG. 1. This glow plug reaches the temperature of 850 ° C after about four seconds and has a maximum temperature of 1100 ° C, which it reaches after about 10 seconds. The temperature is then reduced to approx. 1000 ° C via the control behavior of the glow plug. In comparison, curve 31 shows the glow plug with a shortened control coil, as shown in Figure 2. Due to the much lower resistance of the control coil, a significantly shorter heating-up time is achieved. With this new arrangement according to the invention, the 850 ° C. is already reached after about 2 seconds. This glow plug, as shown in Figure 2, reaches a maximum temperature of about 1200 ° C before the control behavior of the glow plug responds. The maximum temperature of the glow plug according to the invention is thus approximately 150 ° C. higher than that of the glow plugs previously used. To the glow plug with the shortened control coil in front of one
To protect against overheating, the current flow through the glow plug after reaching the necessary start temperature in the exemplary embodiment is 1050 ° C clocked by the control unit, not shown here. The clocking of the current of a glow plug is already known from US Pat. No. 4,391,237 and will not be explained again. The temperature profile of a clocked glow plug according to the invention shown in Figure 2 is shown with the curve 32.
The connection of a glow plug with a shortened control coil and the clocking of the control device has the advantage that, on the one hand, the heating-up time and thus the preheating time for the Engine is significantly shortened and at the same time protection of the glow plug is guaranteed against overheating.
