Abstract

A chip card containing a ferroelectric liquid crystal display with a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer is characterised in that the liquid crystal layer consists of a low-molecular liquid crystal with a higher-order, inclined smectic phase in the working temperature range. The display used according to the invention can be switched at voltages ≤15 V, in general ≤5 V, can be written in a wide temperature range and withstands everyday stresses such as pressure, bending, deformation or extreme temperatures.
