Abstract

A socket for allowing interchanging mutually different electrical light sources with a minimum of expense and with uniformity of lighting effect and comprising a base portion (1), base connection means for interconnecting the base portion with an electrical conductor (W), a light source retaining portion (7, 8, 9, 10, 11), intermediate connection means (4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6a) for interconnecting the light source retaining portion with the base portion, light source connection means (7a, 8a, 9a, 10a, 11a, 12a, 13a, 14a, 15a, 16a) for interconnecting an electrical light source (12, 13, 14, 15, 16) with a corresponding light source retaining portion, and electrical connection means (4, 5, 6, 4a, 5a, 6a, 7a, 8a, 9a, 10a, 11a, 12a, 13a, 14a, 15a, 16a) for electrically connecting the light source to the electrical conductor, all light source retaining portions being mutually interchangeable for allowing the same base portion to be used with all light source types.
